I had a serious talk with a colleague, Miss AUA yesterday. She revealed to me that she is an oncology nurse and her license/card will expire next year. It is expected because her mother had colon cancer but since her mother was operated on and received chemotherapy as well, I thought she should work at the recently-opened oncology ward of the hospital. “No more, Ma’am, I lost my confidence on chemotherapy”. I asked why. She said, her mother got too thin and she had poor appetite. I replied, “Surely you know those are untoward side effects of chemotherapy”. She has already decided to not allow her mother receive chemotherapy drugs anymore. She now resorted to herbal management. A caretaker of their farm in a distant town suggested my colleague to decoct a certain type of grass. I asked, “Is it the Bermuda grass, or the carabao grass, or the long reeds?” “No, Ma’am”, she replied. She said it is the very ordinary type of grass usually found in any rice field, at the roadside, lawn, and anywhere. She said she just decocts it and let her mother drink. According to her, her mother is gaining weight, getting her appetite back, and does not complain of rectal itchiness, bloody stools, or abdominal pain. That is great!
