Play it Again, Sam #38a - "Do You Know the Way to San Jose"

I am soooo far behind, as far as catching up on your discussions, and a lack of high speed Internet isn't helping matters. Meanwhile, we are at #38a, the "original" portion of Play it Again, Sam, a two part discussion consisting of an original song followed by a cover of that song: "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" by Dionne Warwick. "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" was an international smash hit for Warwick, her biggest selling hit to that point. The tune was written by Hal David and Burt Bacharach. Bacharach had already composed the music prior to David writing the lyrics, and just as Patsy Cline wasn't too crazy about "Crazy," Warwick hated "San Jose," but recorded it anyway. She still performs the song in concert (give the people what they want!) Although she still doesn't like the song, she considers the Grammy Award that she won for it (her first) the highlight of her career (you might think it would be her time spent as host of Solid Gold, but no!) The song reached #10 on the Billboard Hot 100, #23 on the R&B chart, and #4 on the Easy Listening chart. It also achieved Top 20 status in five other countries (Top 10 in three of those!)
