Isn't It Just Common Sense Anyway?

As I was scrolling through Facebook, I came across a post that said my state is getting a new law which says that traffic lights that are out should be treated as a 4-way stop. Hmmm, I thought that was what we were taught in driving school anyway. So shouldn't that just be common sense?
Apparently, my state feels it has to be put into the law books now. I always just thought it was a law and would treat any traffic lights that were out as a 4-way stop. Of course, that doesn't mean that everyone will and I have seen a few just keep going as though they own the road. You put your life at risk every time you get behind the wheel of your car and go out onto the roads. Even when traffic lights are working, it doesn't mean that all drivers take notice of them.

We have a big multicomplex in the centre of the town I live in and a couple of times the lights have stopped working. People who drove across it said it was better without them. People just gave way to the right as they would anywhere else. (I think it's give way to the left for you guys!)

If people would do things the right way then it would be no problem. Of course, that is the case with everything right? We give way to the right as well at a 4-way stop.

@morgoodie Our driving test over here is really strict. I took 5 attempts to pass it but now I would say I'm a lot safer than many others on the road.

@sprite1950 Yep, there's one in every bunch. That is what we were taught in driver's training. I just think it is funny that people don't know it now and it has to be made a law. Of course, they have changed they way you have driver's training. When I was in school, one of the high schools in our area had a driving track and all students would be bused there when they were going to take driver's training. It was part of our curriculum.

Yes, that is what people are supposed to do. I sometimes wonder where and how people got their license.

That is only common sense. Another alternative would be to place a police officer at the intersection to direct traffic. No "law" needs to be enacted.

Someone to direct traffic is a good idea, unfortunately, we don't have the police force to do that. We barely have enough to take care of the crime we have. I don't think we need a law for it either. I think people just need to take driver's training again.
