My cat got introduced to a raccoon tonight

Canada

Since the weather has been mild lately I've been leaving the balcony door open so my cat can go in and out as she pleases. I'm on the third floor so she can't get to ground level. I was on the balcony getting some fresh air and spotted a raccoon waddling along ground below. The cat spotted him too. She watched his every step intently. He spotted her and they had a staring match going on for a good ten minutes. I went to get my camera hoping to get a picture of him but when I returned he was gone. Maybe the cat scared him away.

My raccoons aren't scared of Scar in the least. And for some weird reason, they are the only other animals he doesn't mind being in his yard.

@JolietJake This one was big enough to rip my cat apart. Good thing she is protected by the balcony.

@hereandthere They tend to get into the garbage bins and organic waste bin so I'm assuming they eat meat and vegetables/fruit.

You must have a ground level deck do you? My parents used to have that problem.

Cats are out to dominate both the human world and the raccoon world!

The raccoon was invading our territory. My cat was eyeing him from three stories off the ground. I can pretty much guess what she would do if he had climbed the tree in front of my balcony and invited himself for tea.

Probably a good thing Rocky and your cat didn’t meet face to face. I love raccoons but they can get mean when startled.

I agree. I adore them...but from a distance.

That is interesting. It always makes me wonder that the thought processes are between cat and raccoon. Probably both think what in the world is that

That was pretty much what the look on both faces were saying!

At least it was a raccoon and not a skunk.

I am glad that they did not meet "too closely". I know that a raccoon can kill a cat.

That raccoon would be very dangerous to cats or dogs in a close encounter.

That could have been a priceless moment between a cat and a racoon.
