Foodstuffs damaged due to negligence and heat

Well each season has its benefits and disadvantages. We abhor winters for cold mornings and nights and for the need to wear clothes in multiple layers. Yet it has benefits too. One benefit is that we need not keep many of the things always in refrigerator. Even milk and similar products don't get damaged even if out of the the refrigerator for 5 to 6 hours. Yet in summers with maximum temperature often crossing 40 C, situation is so different. Recently we had guests on the weekend and some going here and there and somehow we left milk based sweets and one vegetable in good quantity out of the fridge. What happened was that these foodstuffs got damaged and hence went inedible. We cannot handover such food to anyone and had to throw them. Personally I myself hate food wastage and felt very very bad and sinful. I hope we will be more careful these summers.

I never keep food outside of the refrigerator even in winter. The house is heated, it's better to keep everything in a colder place to be safe.

I feel you. In my home, bacteria damages the food, we have also ants in the house. Those ants are even worse than the bacteria, the ants come fast when they smell the food, they somehow find a way to get to it, they come out from under the floor tiles, make a long line and eat the food. I remember to keep the food in the fridge, so ants won't come out. They remind me to keep the food safe.

@stringer321 even we have ant problems, thus prompting us to keep things in Refrigerator.

@stringer321 well we can also use haldi (turmeric ) but sometimes feel bad about killing the ants in this way.

Summer season is the very bad season for storing foods. I agree, now I am making food in the morning as I have to attend office. I keep those in kitchen as my children will come from school . The problem is if any left over food there, it will get damage once I reach home in evening. Since I have two boys, they are too poor on keeping the food in fridge. Even if I ask them to do it, they forget and get busy on their own stuffs.

So @Sreekala you perhaps need some extra surveillance system!

We always keep perishable food in the refrigerator. It spoils so quickly in the heat.

@DianneN now I am making double sure we keep the things inside the refrigerator- at least till October, when weather begins to get milder.

true that, happens sometimes. Being in coastal region saves us from that intense heat though humid weather in Mumbai makes food items loose their crispness. Tropical heat is really bad these days.

Our food here got spoilt often during summer, such a waste. Sometimes we forgot them for just a few hours and that was it, the food or drink was gone.
