Play it Again, Sam #34b - "The Creator Has a Master Plan"

I probably lost a few people at "jazz" this morning, so I'm taking it a step further! We are at #34b, the "cover" portion of today's Play it Again, Sam: the Brooklyn Funk Essentials' cover of Pharaoh Sanders' "The Creator Has a Master Plan."
Brooklyn Funk Essentials are an acid jazz collective led by bassist Lati Kronlund. For the uninitiated, acid jazz had it's heyday in the 1990's. The genre was made up of groups of young, jazz loving musicians that added other styles to what they were doing, a sort of "anything goes as long as it works" sort of mentality. The Acid Jazz record label best described it in their fantastic This is Acid Jazz compilation series as "pure, unadulterated groove." Frankly, it's some of the coolest music I've ever heard, and Brooklyn Funk Essentials are one of the best of the lot.
In fact, their 1995 debut, Cool and Steady and Easy, is one of the best acid jazz albums I've ever owned, and I've owned a hell of a lot of them. Their cover of "The Creator Has a Master Plan" is a big reason why: it's an absolute acid jazz gem.
Talk about putting your own stamp on a song. THIS is how you do it! It's fresh, original, and really sounds nothing like Sanders' original. If only everyone put such effort into their covers!

@crossbones27 - I pretty much do these for my own amusement, so it's always nice.

Pharaoh Sanders' original was great, straight jazz. Awesome.
