the beat of our drum

We were heading out last night, my Misfits and I, for after-work food and drinks. But then there were headaches, tiredness and unaligned joints causing a kerfuffle, so we nearly didn't go. But then we did. Going out, even to the pub for a couple of hours after work, is a Big Thing for me. I'm not an impulsive or spontaneous person; I need to have plans in place or I become somewhat panicky and anxious. Plans which change at the last moment are a frustration for me and yet I have learnt to 'suck it up' because my Beautiful Italian is infamous for changing her mind. I'll be honest ... a big part of me was happy when it seemed we wouldn't be popping to the pub. I could go home as normal, chill with my Husband and cats and catch up with Lost in Space. But then we did go out and I'm glad we did. I needed that time out. I don't always realise how much my mind craves the stimulation of doing something slightly different to my usual routine and habit. My heart loves routine. My mind does too, and although it hugely loves its solitude, it also occasionally enjoys a bit of company beyond the confines of home and work. Friendship is a difficult concept for me; I'm not good at it, and never have been. But in this small group of people I have found my platonic soulmates. I can be myself when with them. We understand each other's moods, we can vent and grumble without judgement and we have each other's backs in the workplace. We dance to the beat of the same drum. Last night, I went home happy. I went home feeling relaxed. I went home with a bellyful of laughs and a feeling of security. However, I did wake up feeling a tad tired, but that's a small price to pay for an evening of pure happiness, no?

I'm very similar. I usually don't look forward to going out with friends but always enjoy it when i do. Maybe that's the secret to enjoying an evening out. If, on the other hand, we looked forward to it and built it up to be something that was going to be great then maybe we would be disappointed.

@Poppylicious Oh, now you've just touched on one of my pet peeves. People who insist on spending ridiculous amounts of money on their wedding day!! It's one day!! ONE DAY!!! If you really love someone you would marry them anywhere and use an old ring pull as a wedding ring!!! You really wouldn't be ar$ed if the flowers were the wrong shade of pink and the horse drawn carriage arrived 30 seconds late!! And you wouldn't need to spend 3 months rehearsing some sh1tty dance routine that nobody wants to watch! Have a word with yourselves people!!! These days it's quite likely it isn't even going to be the participants' only wedding either!! Oneupmanship of the worst kind, weddings!!

@WorDazza Absolutely. So many couples enter their marriages in far too much debt because of it, it's no wonder marriages are more likely to fail these days. Because I don't like people we were able to keep our costs down for our wedding!!

Like getting married ... It's always built up and looked forward to, but there's always something which goes wrong, like one uncle hits another, or something.

i dont mind going out, but i dont like to spend a lot of money. im into having a simpler time but most around me like to go to clubs, not bars, or people filled parties, where im more into a small gathering.

I much prefer a small gathering too. I'm far past the age of enjoying clubs, and thinking back I had to be drunk to go to them anyway!

@Poppylicious - people would laugh at me for taking ear plugs in to the clubs. while they complained of headaches , i was just giving them the "so !? whose laughing now!?"

I understand because I am like you. I like routine, I do not feel comfortable being among people. Anyway, when I go out with only a few friends I come back home happy.

Camaraderie, don't knock it - ages to establish, seconds to demolish. Sounds like a good night all-round

I avoided places with people so far. Yet whenever I was in one with friends, I often ended up being the clown of the group, making everyone laughed hilariously. THAT was hard work, and perhaps that is why I will always continue to avoid going out with friends. (Like you, I hate surprises .)
