Good Wednesday evening from this side of the globe. At last, the hot temperature is already reducing to 33 degrees Celsius and counting.
Even dogs need to constantly hydrate themselves. Our dogs here have 2 drinking vessels at the veranda and another 2 vessels inside our house. Several times, I or my son would refill the vessels because our dogs really feel the summer heat.
After they eat their lunch and peeing and pooping, they all go inside the house and have their afternoon naps.
We know they are thirsty if they pant, and they pant loud, like Sydney. Also, their mouths are open and their tongues hanging outside of their oral cavities. More often than not too, they eat lesser than what they usually eat because I think they feel more thirsty than hungry.
May I ask if the felines, or cats, do pant when it is hot in the place where they are staying?

@mlgen1037 hehehe i'm not a pro my friend, i will just talk about my experienced with cats. I have few of them one is my pet and the others are stray who happened to stay in our house, and i usually give them something to eat so they kept on coming back. I never saw them panting, but i guess they do, it's something of a reaction of the body from too much heat and when they do pant they felt relieved. Cats are independent creatures. They know how to take care of themselves. Unlike dogs who are dependent to their human companion. Cats go to shady places to cool themselves. They are licking themselves and that means like they are having their bath. So when they don't feel too hot then they won't be panting @ridingbet. I love them all, cats, dogs and birds. And they need water especially these months.

yes, and they really consume much. my son however advised me to not add more water in their drinking vessel at night so they won't pee around the house.

@minx267 really? hmmm, what i am ambivalent about is when a cat meows and then moves his furry body passing through my legs, as if wanting to be caressed.

every night i change the water and fill it to the brim. our dog is lethargic but not panting. maybe because she's short-haired.

really? then maybe your dogs need to be in front of the fan or in an AC room?

@ridingbet Yes and there is a reason. Cats evolved from ancestors that lived in desert regions, so they are a lot better at dealing with heat than dogs. When it is too hot cats become lazy, they lay down and do nothing, this prevent panting. Cats groom themselves all the time, the evaporation of their saliva helps to cool down their skin.

yes, and there is the dilemma too of water shortage this summer. water from the dams are slowly going down and i hope we won't have the rationing of water in every house.

Not necessarily. It is still too hot in here. We have to have rain today so it won't be hot when power disruption starts in 45 minutes now.
