My name, my real name... as I, like many of you, have opted for a nom de plume on myLot.... means healthy and beautiful flower. My mother carefully selected my name as she did for all of her children.
See, for some cultures, the naming of a baby is important. It's like a right of passage. It's part of your existence here on earth. It defines who you are. You become your name. And you are nothing if you don't have a name. My mother believed that her babies would take on the characteristics of their names, and so she researched names and their meanings for each of us.
Today, I see cultures changing. Baby-naming is not so much a ritual as it is an obligation, a thing to do... and very often, names are selected simply because they are different. With names like "Apple" and "North" and so on, new precedents are being set.
But for you, myLotters, do you know the meaning of your name? If so, what is it?

Thanks for sharing. My name is a purely literary one. It originated from the short story named "Albena" written by the famous Bulgarian author Yordan Yovkov. Albena means a fatal wife. Her lover killed her husband. She was so beautiful that when she would have to go to the court one man cried: "Boys, don't let her to go! What will our village look like without the beauty Albena?"

"Aurelia (also spelled Aurélia or Aurelija) is a feminine given name from the Latin family name Aurelius, which was derived from aureus meaning "golden". The name began from minor early saints but was given as a name due to its meaning, and not from where it originated."
So says Wikipedia. Not the best source to cite, but I think Aureliah is a golden name and a beautiful at that.

For me Porwest was a distribution company I was going to form. There was a potato chip company called Poore Brothers, which is actually traded now as SNAK. I lived in West Allis, Wisconsin. So Porwest was a combination of Poore Brothers chips and West Allis. The company failed, but I kept the name.

The name Lucinda means "Beautiful Light" or "Illumination". The name I use in daily life (Lucy) means "Light".
