How you discipline your child?

Now a days I meet parents who are so well read and take parenting too seriously. I am surprised to find out the various innovative ideas that they use to discipline their child. For us, living what we want to preach is the mantra that me and my husband follow to discipline our daughters. I have a firm belief that children imitate you under your skin and you have to put your conscious effort to be a example of what you want them to be. I would like to know your views on it. Would love to hear some more innovative ways to discipline your child.

I appreciate your views, I am not a person taking a cane and threaten the children in the name of discipline. As you said, you need to be role model in front of them. I have one son who is a senior Engineer in one of the Japanese Company in R &D division. He got married. Till the date he never ever lied with us. He admits whatever he does and he does have full confidence in us. Having seen him our daughter in law who is an Asst. prof. serving in University, teaching English, she has become like that and today she says to her friends that her 'Sasural' is a place to enjoy to her! So in the name of discipline instead of becoming stern and strict we should impart and inculcate the good and practical things in life in the life of our kids! Thanks a lot @arunima25!

Thank you. That's so nice to hear. Good to see an example of nurturing confidence and bonding with children. A healthy way of parenting is to make them feel close to you.

We have no children, but the example of my parents surely was a model for me when I grew up.

I don't think you can ever really take parenting to seriously. I always try to be there best mom I can be. Being a parent is such an amazing thing but we should put our all into it and take it seriously. I do completely agree with you that kids will imitate us so we need to be an excellent example for our kids. I hate the do as I say not as I do idea.
