Food Porn: “Singkamas”

Today, my mother bought "singkamas' or turnip from the public market. In some countries, they called it Mexican potato or turnip. It sounds appealing for some who haven't seen one. It has been a long time that I haven’t eaten it. Eating “singkamas” wasn’t that fancy in my country. You just need to have some iodized salt and sprinkled to its meat. For some, it can be eaten with mixed vinegar and salt. It was a good snack for the locals. “Do you have Mexican potato in your country?” “Do you like having them as your snacks?” Image Credit: Shavkat

I do think it is nice to have them as snacks. If you will visit Mexico again, you can try to find them. Some people used them with other veggies. @JamesHxstatic found a link. It is also called 'jicamas.'

I think that in the US, those are called jicamas (pronounced hicamas). I like them pretty well.

Turnips were used a tremendous amount in England before but I don´t know about now. I have used them to make stews and other kinds of dishes they give a special taste to what you are cooking.

@Shavkat Spring Rolls ingredient never thought of that one at all as they use cabbage here a lot in fact the most. Turnips with parsnips are also a good mix and with carrots too very warming on a sharp cold Winter day.

It depends how the person prepares them. For me, I just peel it off, slice them into sticks and mixed with vinegar-salt.
