Getting ready for a new writing contest

Well I had been taking part in a writing contest spanning close to 8 months, where I submitted a story each month. I was not lucky. Nevertheless it was a great opportunity to test and improve my writing skills. I have another opportunity in an international writing contest. I am a bit confused whether to wrote an action/thriller genre story or a general one. Well looking forward to the contest anyways.
