I Want To Be Alone

Every now and then I have an overwhelming urge to be alone. Not all the time, but some of the time I feel the need for peace, quiet, and the beautiful feeling of being alone. These feeling come over me when I am in a writing jag. When ideas are flowing so quickly that I am overcome with the joy of writing. It doesn't happen often so I love to immerse myself in that joy when it does. Unfortunately when I am happily immersed in the flow of words it seems that every one and their brothers seem to stop by for a little visit. Go figure. Me being me I visit with them and lose that feeling of words just flowing through my fingertips and onto the paper or computer, whichever I happen to be using at that time. It is like Murphy's Law - whatever can go wrong does go wrong. I end up resentful because I am unable to get back that writing feeling and can't enjoy my conversation. Sometimes I just need to be alone. It's not that I don't like people and enjoy their company. It's more like I hate to be interrupted when I am on a roll. I know they can't know when this is happening. It has almost convinced me that I need to do my writing in the middle of the night. But then again, I just have to go with when inspiration hits me. Maybe I need to live on a deserted island. But then again, I would miss being around people. Oh dear.

I think it would help if you could find an isolated place away from your home where you could go to write when inspiration strikes. That way, you can let the words flow without being interrupted by well-meaning friends, family members and neighbors.

It would be nice. I think maybe I will make myself a little she-shed to work in. If I am in it I am working and not to be disturbed. You have a great idea.

@HazySue I think the idea of a she-shed would is a great one! You can make it as cozy as you want, or leave it as bare as you want. I've always wondered why men get to be the ones who have a shed out in the yard. We get the garage and the shed? Hardly seems fair. Women should get the option of having a shed too if they so desire!

@moffittjc I think we should be able4 to have a shed also. Too long it has been an option for only men to have a shed. It is time women start standing up for their right to have for.

Most of us do need time to ourselves. I would love to be able to find more without hurting anyone's feelings.

I think that would be a good idea. Because as you said they don't know you need to be alone. Like last night I was trying to get to my notifications, and my client kept talking, it irritated me. She didn't know.

I think we all need a shed or something that will alert people to the4 fact that we are busy creating and need to be alone.

I know exactly what you mean. Writing is important, and when you are in a writing jag, you need to write. I know my characters don't let me alone until I get their words down on paper. Or in the modern era we're in, on a Word document. I'm lucky. Not a lot of people call me, or stop over, so I'm alone most of the time to get it done. I might suggest letting your friends know you're busy and can't be disturbed, but do it in a nice way so they aren't offended. You could also just turn your phone off.

@HazySue I don't know if I could handle that kind of interruptive life style.

Mine don't let me rest until I give them the recognition they feel they deserve. I do turn off my phone. In this neighborhood people drop in to visit. Being able to let them now ahead of time just isn't always possible.

The best part about being alone is that you really don't have to answer to anybody. You do what you want. A quote from Justin Timberlake. Sometimes I feel that way....Being alone and being at peace from time to time recharges the soul....I think it's quite normal to have our alone time

I think it is a good thing to spend alone time. I am thinking that I would make a good hermit. Almost all of my activities are those that are solitary.

@HazySue Sometimes our best companion can be our own company. Sitting with our own thoughts can be liberating....

I prefer to be alone almost all the time. But I’m married now so I’m hardly ever alone, Lol. I enjoy times that I can spend alone. Peace and Quiet. Love it!

I do need my alone time. Otherwise I just go inside. As much as I do love my family and talking to others, I do like having some time just by myself.

I'm okay if I'm alone, with an unlimited Internet connection, working on a task and coffee on my side.

There were many situations I want to feel alone. The best remedy is sound sleep.
