Born to suffer.

Are human beings born to suffer? - so many awful ailments out there which at times seem to jump out of nowhere to knock one down. I was doing some research on the internet in the hope of finding home remedies to help a male relative of mine who is having a hard time with arthritis and sciatica. He does not like taking pain medication - so if anyone knows of any other tried and proven methods of relieving arthritis pain I would appreciate your input. By the way - he is in his late seventies. I am also wondering if illnesses like arthritis and dementia are what we must expect to be greeted by as we approach old age. I prefer to think that age related illnesses are not a must, and there are preventative measures which we could take to avoid getting them. Any suggestions?

I'm also hoping and doing things that might prevent some health challenges as we get older. I hope they work!

I am doing the same with diet and exercise and hope they work - even though some ailments are hereditary.

He need to eat foods that cause less inflammation, the night shade family of plants, food, cause this. Tomatoes, bell peppers and eggplant are some common foods we eat. More salmon in the diet would help too. Biofreeze for the joints, especially the lower back. And a good chiropractor should work wonders for him.

I would suggest physical therapy, if available, and, if not, there are some good stretches that will help sciatica. I will send a link and there are others.
The telltale symptoms of sciatic nerve pain are severe pain in your back, buttocks, and legs. The pain can be so excruciating that you don’t even want to leave the couch. But relief is possible, and a home routine of stretches for sciatica may be the answe

@Kandae11 The one with the leg on the opposite knee is pretty easy and simply lying on your back on the floor or a mat with the right leg out straight and the other foot flat on the floor next to the right knee is good too and can be reversed of course.

I had extreme sciatica but I am cured now. There isn't any remedy that I know off. It's an extremely painful disease. I got help through prayer and healing. Most ailment today is caused by diet and lifestyle. Sadly, it's the modern world.

Prevention is better than cure is what helps Arthritis. Eating right is the answer. Avoiding red meats could be one such way.

Contrary to what some would say we are just not very well put together so ailments are inevitable especially as we age. Wear and tear will ultimately catch up with us if we manage to avoid the more serious and ghastly diseases. I think good diet and regular exercise is probably the best way to try to prevent age catching up with us but even then there are no guarantees.

@Kandae11 To be honest, when you look at just how many things can go wrong with the human body and how many nasty things are out there that could infect us with something awful, I'm amazed so many of us live to a ripe old age!!

@Kandae11 Conversely the fact we do react differently to the same things could well be key in the discovery of treatments for some illnesses as the doctors and scientists work out why somebody isn't affected by something that potentially kills other people.

You are perfectly right - when it isn't one thing, it could be another. A good diet and exercise should be of some help.

ShaylovesKay uses hemp oil and hemp pills. She says it helps her tremendously. I would send her a message. She could give some good info on that!!!!! Also there is so much we can prevent with diet. There a book called the Mind Diet that tells all about a diet that reversed dementia!!! And how u can prevent it with different foods!!!

Hm Interesting outlook. I have a Catholic friend who seems to suggest that suffering makes a person more like Christ. I'm not sure that I agree, but it's a different way to look at it. I have heard about the spice turmeric being good at getting inflmation down.

I unfortunately have not heard of any "remedies" aside from traditional medications, although I may be looking into some soon as I suffer cervical radiculopathy and arthritis in my back and get tired of taking Flexerol and Ibuprofen all the time for it, As for why humans endure so much, who knows? I certainly wish it were not so.

Do they work? - He does not like taking pain medication, but personally I would take it if I needed it. I refuse to go through my days in pain and discomfort. What is cervical radiculopathy?

@Kandae11 It's just a fancy term for disc degeneration and compression. No cure except maybe surgery at some point. The medications help a little bit, but I hate taking medication all the time. As for the Flexerols, they work very well, but I only take them at night since they make you drowsy.

Looking at my parents, they are always active and on the go most of the time so I guess that helps in preventing dementia or alzheimer's. They do experience body aches once in a while but manageable.

So many people do wind up with Alzheimer's and dementia. My grandmother had Alzheimer's for like 10 years. It was horrible she had to suffer so long. I hope there is a cure for it by the time I am the age she was when she got it. I don't know of anything to help arthritis but sciatica there are some yoga stretches that can help with that I saw shared on Facebook.

I don't believe there is much we can do other than eat a healthy diet and exercise as long as we are able. Some of use will have terrible illnesses and some will remain in better health. It's a toss up in my opinion.

Diet and exercise definitely help. But I have seen cases where disciplined diet and exercise has also not helped with getting the ailments but has definitely helped with managing it.Having a positive attitude and staying engaged helps you a lot to fight ailments. I have seen that with my grandparents who despite of all age related issues were active and productive till their last breath!!
