Roseanne pulled after racist tweet. It was inevitable.

So some of you will remember the US sitcom Roseanne from the 1980s, a huge show in America. It was fun because it featured a sassy working class left wing family, Roseanne playing the mouthy wife of the lovable Jon Goodman character..... a sort of Cosby Show for rednecks. It went away and was forgotten about but has returned in Trumps America 30 - years - later. But what was interesting was Roseanne Barr had changed her left wing politics for the new version, a full on Republican now, and that means right wing opinions on American TV. That's not unusual with their right wing media but it is for a TV sitcom. It was a big success. As soon as I heard that was happening I knew it would go wrong in the end. There is no way a network show would tolerate right wing stuff on air, especially ABC. After the first season finished and her pro Trump views were aired in the show the ratings were high and the top show on Tuesday nights. It was a powerful voice for a president who spoke for a big chunk of the country still. But, just before season two was to air this week she made some crazy racist tweets about Obama's people and that was the end of the show, forced to pull last night. That is the power of social media.

The best thing would be for celebrities to stop tweeting and get into arguments on twitter.

Rosanne Barr had said/done many derogatory things back in the 80's/90's when her show made its first run, and she was able to get away with ALL of it. Things have changed since then as well as the growing intolerance for racism and ignorant rants by such 'celebrities'. She must have been living under a rock during the changing times.

It was intriguing she was allowed to have a pro Trump sitcom though

It's good that ABC elected not to put up with the tweet Roseanne decided to make. But it's unfortunate for the actors and actresses on this show. John Goodman was making a comeback for his career because the new Roseanne episodes were getting good ratings. How sad for him. And how lousy it was for Ms. Barr to create such an offensive tweet! She should know better.

As I told another user here, I am sure her fellow actors were very displeased with her. I did watch the first series when it aired in the 90's, but I didn't bother watching this series. It is a very tight rope one must walk to get away with politics in dramatized television.

It was actually, never forgotten about. By fans. As the show was repeated on many channels, all these years before it was brought back last year. And still is. I watched the new season, and liked it, though it was off compared to how the show was years ago. And as a fan, I am pissed that the show is cancelled. But I get why they cancelled it.

Sad thing is how many are out of a job because of her now. Granted they are all very talented and capable people who should have no problem getting other work, but an inconvenience at best and not many shows where you can bring that point of view to the mainstream on a network station. I know people maybe tired of hearing this, but most people who act like Trump or want to act like Trump would be smacked by their friends and families and fired from their employers. Not sure how he became President off many egredious comments like that. The funny thing is it is working for him now more than ever as more people are flocking to him. What does Roseanna have to do with Trump because now we are see first hand what that type of leaderships does. Makes people think its OK to be hateful in public. I have known this mindset was here since I was 19 and it has been trying to bubble to the surface for a long time. Now we get to see how hateful this country really is as they finally have a leader who supports their hate.

I think people have said much worse things and not been punished.

People should keep racist comments for themselves. I agree with the cancellation.

I saw part of the first new show of the series and it was so bad I turned it off, I don't believe the show would have succeeded if she had kept her mouth shut. I liked the Roseanne of the 80s but the latest failed.

@thedevilinme I heard somewhat of what she said. Left wing can say anything they want and a show they are on will not get cancelled but if she says what she feels she gets cancelled. Tell me is that fair. Why can some people say what they want and others cannot. Yes, she was once left wing and now she turned her politics to be pro Israel. So, tell me what is wrong with that?

Good riddance! The line between politician and movie star seems to be narrowing. To bad all the competence tests forced on public school kids isn't updated for government employees
