Is Social Media dominating us?

India

We all are very much aware of social media. We are pretty good users of it. I think our life is now incomplete without it. When I look back (15 years), we used to have a personal bond with friends, relatives and family. We used to pay visits to loved ones. Phone call from siblings and friends meant so much. We used to wait for summer vacations to meet up with cousins to have fun. Now those things are vanished. We keep in touch via phones and social media. We arr updated about each other but we are unable to make time to pay visits. That fun and bonding of togetherness is missing. We are in touch with large crowd but emotional touch has become lesser. Do you feel the same? Is social media is subtracting bond on any relation of yours? Can you see the negative side of it!? Which negative side of social media is concerning for you? Please share your comments.

I live in another island , far from my big family. So that sosial media is the right choice for me to connect with them so I can communicate with them faster and more cheap.

I think you are right but this is the only site I'm on that might be considered 'social media'. I think it is a shame that people no longer interact face-to-face so much.

@anamika161088 Luckily some parents do make sure their children get outside and play as much as possible.

@JudyEv Here it is not same. Here parents think that kids are safer inside and give them mobile phones and tablets to play to keep them inside in front of their eyes.

Yes. I can see the difference when I was a child and children nowadays. We used to be very active physically but children presently are restricting themselves at home with phones only. I have observed many of them and I really feel pity for them as they are not enjoying what we have enjoyed

Yes, Today we hardly have those emotions and feeling when me meet friends or relatives personally , which we used to have some decades back as we know everything about each other and we stay updated through social media! This difference definitely I miss! Thanks!

Yes. Interactions have increased but emotional touch is decreasing with increasing technology

Social media feeds man's inherent narcissistic nature and desire for attention in unhealthy fashion.

I agree with you. We are seeking virtual attention rather than the real one.

Yes I agree with you. I am very attached to social media and I feel incomplete without it.. It's subtracting bond ,yes indeed. Before when we have a get together we are very excited but now it's less exciting.

Same here. Even when we are together, everyone stay occupied with their mobile phones which affects the connection and bonding.
