Maybe you have heard or been taught that all good people got to heaven but is it true? Does the Bible teach that? The answer seems to be no! Why do I say that? * When God created Adam and Eve, there was no discussion of going to heaven. * Usually people when they speak of going to heaven, they always describe heaven in earthly terms. However, heaven is a spiritual place where spirits live. * Here is a very simple and plain statement by God: Psalm 115:16 American Standard Version (ASV) 16 The heavens are the heavens of Jehovah; But the earth hath he given to the children of men. * In the Old Testament there is very little discussion about heaven. * In the New Testament there is a hope for some to go to heaven. Heaven will be a reward for a small number of humans and they go there so that they will rule over the earth that will be filled with righteous people. Revelation 5:10 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC) 10 And You have made them a kingdom (royal race) and priests to our God, and they shall reign [as kings] over the earth! That's the way I understand things and please share your thoughts?

Revelation 21: 1 says - And I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away. So I suppose what you are saying is correct.

It is an interesting subject to try to understand by putting all the pieces together so that we get as complete picture as possible. When we ask some people that think they are going to heaven what they will do there, they usually answer that they don't know or that they will live is some sort of garden with animals and flowers. But heaven is a place for spirit beings like God and the angels and any that are chosen to go there will be transformed into spirits and will be used to make sure that God's will will be done on earth so that the whole earth becomes a paradise full of people living happy and peaceful lives.

@1hopefulman Actually, those going to heaven will be like Jesus was in his resurrected body. He had a body but yet it could appear at will and he could seem to walk through walls. We will have a spiritual body, yes, but we will look like who we are. For those that get taken at the gathering together, they may be helping fight the enemy during the Armageddon The first earth was a garden and the third could very well be one too. That isn't discussed much so we'll have to wait and see..

The Bible often uses expressions in a figurative way. It takes careful study to see that point. What is the "new earth"? Continue to read and study the word of God and to pray for the right understanding and you may be blessed beyond your imagination. Luke 10:21-22 King James Version (KJV) 21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. 22 All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.

@db20747 God didn't make such a beautiful planet to either allow it to be destroyed or destroy it. The only problem on the planet are the bad people and he will soon wipe them all out just as he did in Noah's day. The bad people and their bad ways are the "earth" that will be destroyed and the "new earth" are the good people that will be preserved. 2 Peter 3:6 King James Version (KJV) 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

I have pretty deep feelings about things that would take way too long to explain. And might have unintended repercussions. So I will just say this. I honestly wouldn't mind just staying on the Earth. Heaven is where you make it.

So true! When I was born I had no choice of where I was born or who my parents would be. When I die, I will have no choice of where God will want me to be, whether in heaven or on earth. Whatever He decides will be the best thing for me.

I think it is one book and appreciate every word that comes from God. Without the NT we would know nothing about Jesus. So, I start reading at Genesis and continue until I get to Revelation and then start again and so I continue to continue. According to Revelation, one day there will be New Scrolls and look forward to that.

You are correct in stating that good people don't go to heaven. You must be born again and have a relationship with Jesus Christ to go to heaven. Heaven waits for all those who believe in and have put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. I know I'm going to heaven when I pass from this life.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and yes I agree that one has to be born again to go to heaven and when they die they will be transformed into a spirit in the twinkling of an eye.

@mlgen1037 Louise, thank you for your friendship and kind words! The Bible holds out the hope of everlasting life in happiness and whether it is is heaven or earth makes no difference to me but I do want whichever place God chooses for me. I was not born an angel but a human on earth and I appreciate that very much and if God wants me to live for eternity on earth then I will be happy with his decision.

We all already live in heaven, because it is the home-town, so to speak, of our souls
What is heaven? Does Jesus Christ prepare a place for all of us there, or not? "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe in Me as well. In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” From Saint John's gospel, chapter 14, verses 1 to 4. Now is this only said for Jesus's disciples, or is it said for all of us too? To me, Heaven is a vast world, with space for all souls, as all souls begin their life in heaven. The covering of a soul can be different though. It might be as an Earthly body, or as an angelic body, or as a spirit, all have souls, even Jesus has a soul, and the father of every soul is the great soul God, himself. And so, I think that we will continue to live in other worlds for experiences there with various bodies, but our soul always remains a heaven-bound entity, as its roots are planted there always, within God's heavenly soil. Thanks Steve for sharing your thoughts on this question. An important question that comes up in my mind is: in John 14:1-4, was Jesus talking to a mass audience or to a little group of specially selected individuals? Earlier in his ministry, he had said the words found in Matthew 5:5 to a mass audience. Matthew 5:5 King James Version 5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. And even that only applies to those that do the will of God. That's how I see it at this time.

@innertalks Interesting! However, very few people understand what the biblical work translated as "meek" really means. The word "meek" appears 29 times in the King James Version and so there a lot of meaning to that word. Both Jesus and Moses are described as meek. Psalm 37:11 King James Version 11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

@1hopefulman Inheriting the Earth, might actually be an admonishment for the meek, and not such a blessing, as we think that it was then. I think that meekness is a good trait when found in good people, but we need more than meekness to make it into heaven. We need active love, courageously being applied. The meek will not go to hell then, but to get to heaven, they must become stronger than that, is a meaning that I might draw from what Jesus said there.

Yes, all good people go to heaven. Those who do bad deeds will go to hell. In all religions this is taught.

I think all people who have good/ jesus in the heart will go to heaven. The pope even said as much. Jesus said the other guy on a cross would be seeing him soon too. So what does that say? :) There is hope for everyone that they can change their life around with God's help and do better.

What I'm saying is that the Bible teaches that only a few humans (144,000) compared to the billions that will live in the "new earth" will go to heaven and they will be 'kings and priests' over the earth and will guide us to make the earth a paradise where most good people will live forever in happiness. What is interesting about that evildoer nailed beside Jesus is that when he asked to be in Jesus' kingdom (which is in heaven) Jesus told him that he would be in paradise and not in the kingdom. Yes, everyone can change their ways and inherit blessings from God and whether they be in heaven or on earth is not what is important.

Here is a link to a wonderful blog that I read every day. I follow the advice given and it never leads me astray. God has spoken to me and He will speak to you also. Put down your Bible that was written by men who have no understanding of God to be able to accurately interpret any words He may or may not have spoken, and get to know your TRUE Father and His Kingdom.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts but I'm very happy where I am. I love all the words of God in the Bible. God speaks to me and everybody else through the words of the Bible. Matthew 4:4 King James Version (KJV) 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
