It's not my fault that these guys keep showing up on Play it Again, Sam. Blame all of the band's that keep covering their songs! As always, Play it Again, Sam is a two part discussion consisting of an original song followed by a cover of that song. We are at #20a, the "original" portion: "I'm Free" by The Rolling Stones.
Originally released as the final track from the British release of the Stones' 1965 album, Out of Our Heads (and later included on the US release of that same year's December's Children (And Everybody's,) "I'm Free" was proof that The Rolling Stones could do hippie, Summer of Love-style music with the best of them.
The song was used as the B-Side of their hit single, "Get Off of My Cloud," ("hit" is a bit of an understatement. #1 in the US, UK, Germany, and Canada, #2 in Norway, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Australia, and Ireland, #5 in Austria and #6 in Belgium. Which means that a lot of people were exposed to "I'm Free," even if they didn't buy the album. Because who didn't flip the 45 over and listen to the B-Side at least once? Hell, lots of times, the B-Side was the better song!)
"I'm Free" was ranked by Rolling Stone Magazine as the 78th Greatest Rolling Stones song, drawing comparisons to The Byrd's (and I can totally see The Byrd's having done this when I listen!)
And a few decades later, a band had a groovy old time with this one.
Stay tuned!

This has been in a commercial or two.
When I first saw the title I thought of the song from Tommy:
I'm free - I'm free, And freedom tastes of reality, I'm free -I'm free, And I'm waiting for you to follow me. If I told you what it takes to reach the highes...

The Stones were truly great in the 60s. Great sound to this one.

Totally. This could have been a hit, don't know why it was just a B-Side.

@teamfreak16 In the 60s, the B's for Beatles, Stones, Elvis and others were usually hit quality.

You mentioned some great Stones tunes there! Also "She's A Rainbow" is another great one.

That is a good one. My favorite is "2000 Light Years from Home."
