ants everywhere

I prepared the rice in the rice cooker for our lunch. I saw some red ants wandering again and wanting to get in the dog food in those red colored ice cream elongated plastic containers. So what I do every night, I did it now. I brought out this vintage aluminium flat plate, added water, and placed that food stand where the containers are placed atop. The container at the left is our garbage bin for the day that should be emptied every night; this is also placed in the blue plastic shallow vessel filled with water. As what we say in our national language, "Para-paraan lang yan", or we do DIY'S for any problem. Can you share some DIY's for ants in your home?

my sister would apply that chalk to block the ants from going to a certain area in the kitchen that is why the walls of our kitchen have lines of the chalks. the ants now are high-tech.

Ants are repelled by the smell of cinnamon. I sprinkle a bit of cinnamon around the base board of my walls and leave some on the kitchen counters in a paper plate.

@Starmaiden that would be nice so i have to search in a grocery store if they sell barks of cinnamon. we are trying all measures to eradicate ants from climbing and taking away our food.

@ridingbet the bark may work even better with less mess.

Yes, we do that too for foods left at the table because someone hasn't eaten yet. Ants can never reach it when there's water below it.

@ridingbet Yes, a stand is necessary indeed. We also put a stand whenever we do that. It's better to be sure of things being done.

@SIMPLYD when all the stands are used, we use the empty cans of flat sardines.

yes my lady but sometimes, the ants are wise. they find other means to reach their goal. that is why when we put a stand with water below, there should be noting that touches the lid of the food that touches another thing or item, because ants can make a bridge to reach the food.

Hi po. We have a lot of ants here too. We would mix water and baking soda and spray it on those ants.

do the ants get killed with the spray with baking soda hija? do you also put the solution on a plate where foods are kept elevated?

Mix equal parts of white vinegar and water, pour into a spray bottle. Shake the bottle, then spray this solution around baseboards and other points where you see the ants. As an alternative, you can put ground cinnamon and whole cloves where you notice they enter your home.

thank you. now, i have to buy a bottle of white vinegar so i can prepare the solution you mentioned here. also the ground cinnamon. i asked if a bark of cinnamon is okay but knowing now that powder of cinnamon can be used, i will just have to buy cloves.

Try to spray them an aerosol spray, some people say it's a good insecticide that is effective in eliminating ants.

actually, we have the Baygon insect spray and we often spray using this.ants have a hard covering so i think they can withstand a spray unless it is a strong insect repellent. i think the ants have also developed water-proof legs because apparently they float on the water.

@Jessabuma yes but pouring hot water at night might cause the unseen elements return something bad against the person pouring the hot water.
