Getting Fresh Seafood from the Market

Whenever I go to the wet market, I'm often eager to look for fresh seafood. I have always preferred buying fish and other seafood at the wet market because they are usually fresh and available in different varieties. This morning I got two kinds of fish and half a kilo of fresh clams. My daughter loves shellfish, especially mussels and clams. So I thought to get some and make some soup, as it's been raining cats and dogs here for like a week already. It sure would be nice to have something warm to sip during mealtime. The clam soup that I make is so easy: I just sautee garlic and ginger in little oil, add in the clams, simmer in water, and season with salt. I throw in some moringai leaves for added nutrition. Do you have a favorite seafood soup? How do you make it? (Image by Pixabay)

Hi Connie. I do not eat clams and mussels but I eat squid and shrimps. I like "Sinigang na Hipon" (Shrimp Broth - I am not even sure if that is how we call it in English).

I used to eat a lot of fresh sea food until I discovered they contain lead. So when I eat fish, I make sure that they have been frozen for quite some time.

My preferred seafood soup is the French Bouillabaisse, it is a bit complicated, but very good.
