Immigration Detention Center Facts

You're going to hear a lot of fake news reports spreading this headline around today "President Trump signs executive order to end his cruel meany mean racist bigoted, (and whatever other negative slur we can think of), immigrant child separation policy." I yi yi. I can't even. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ2GU_0Z6p0 Let's cut the dramatics and get straight to the facts. Fact One: Is this President Trump's policy as stated by the media? No. Former President Bill Clinton set up mandatory immigration detention centers in 1996 with the enactment of the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty and the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility acts. [A] From 1996 to 1998, the number of immigrants in detention increased from 8,500 to 16,000. By 2008 this number increased to more than 30,000.According to the Global Detention Project, the United States possesses the largest immigration detention system in the world. As the number of detainees increased so did the facilities to house them. The numbers rose sharply due to the lack of a border wall. ***more about this act can be found here: The IIRIRA 1995 act was passed 91-8 in the senate and 293-133 in the house. And was signed into law by Bill Clinton. Effective April 24, 1996. https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=104&session=1&vote=00242 Now to be absolutely fair the law was a bipartisan act involving democrats and republicans, but as long as liberal controlled media wants to lie and play propaganda games ... well let's just take a look at some of those democrats that voted yes to the law. Oh my. Some popular democrats here. Feinstein (D-CA), Reid (D-NV), Boxer (D-CA), Biden (D-DE) But wait... Biden has been going around talking about how cruel "Trump's" policy is. You mean to tell me that Biden was one of the people that agreed to the so called cruel policy back in 1995? Looks like Lying Joe Biden strikes again. About 33 dems voted to pass the law in the senate alone. Fact Two: Is this an unjust law as proclaimed by the media? No. And the bipartisan members of Congress (like Lying Joe Biden) sure didn't think it was when they approved the law. The purpose of the law was to reform the US's failing catch and release and amnesty policies that saw the US economy being crippled by welfare state policies. A huge rise in illegal alien crime including murder, rape, sex trafficking, etc also pushed citizens in high risk areas to demand their representatives get the law passed. The objective is the safety of all US citizens, and the control of immigration. The result was good and bad. Criminal aliens were taken off the streets in large numbers in the beginning. But it didn't do much to deter people from illegally entering the US As you can see from above [A] the number of detainees from 96 to 98 doubled. and then that number doubled again by 2008 to 30,000 detainees nationwide. Now keep in mind by admission of their own mouths this is a policy that past administrations hardly enforced (except when the voting winds shifted), or even deterred. Now this should give you an idea of how many people have been crossing over that border illegally. And what's to stop them with no wall? Fact Three: Are the immigration detention centers cruel and inhumane as also reported by the media? Welllllllllllllllll..... Today - No. Since becoming president Trump's revamped immigration enforcement agencies have taken major steps to improve the conditions at the detention centers. This can be confirmed per detention center website revisions 2017 to 2018. The media's claim that children are kept in cages away from their families is absolutely 100% false. There are no cages. Detainees are provided with health care, entertainment, education, dietary and other facilities. That include visitation time for religious clergy, family, lawyers, and even the media. But don't take my word for it. Here's the website for one of those centers. https://www.geogroup.com/FacilityDetail/FacilityID/58 Take a peak at some of those pictures. And what's this? Straight from the website: FACILITY DESCRIPTION: Multipurpose rooms are located within each housing wing for social activities, recreation, and laundry facilities. Each housing room is equipped with bathroom/shower facilities, individual TVs, and microwaves. The recreation area includes indoor gymnasium, artificial turf soccer field, covered pavilion, playground and picnic areas. Oh my. A playground and picnic areas? Ohhhhhh the horror. This is an absolute outrage? Oh no. President Trump is truly twisted. Those poor kids. And just to further drive home the point that this was not President Trump's policy - take a look at that build date. 2010. Who was the president in 2010 now? I forget. https://www.geogroup.com/FacilityDetail/FacilityID/58 But even though today the facilities have been overhauled and have seen major improvements, it would be dishonest to say that they've always been in such conditions. In the past a number of groups have complained about the poor conditions and terrible treatment by staff. A 2018 report by the ACLU and University of Chicago Law School's International Human Rights Clinic alleged that there was pervasive physical, verbal, sexual and psychological abuse of immigrant minors by DHS and CBP officials over the period 2009-2014. Customs and Border Protection denied the allegations. -ACLU Now some of you are going to focus on that 2018 number. Let's be clear. The report was released in 2018, but was an account of conditions at the facilities from 2009-2014. Wait... Who was the president from 2009 to 2014? I forget now. Why did the ACLU choose to not release the report during it's conclusion date, but instead chose to release it in 2018? That's politics for ya. Conclusion: President Trump did not start the detention center policy. Bill Clinton did. And it was approved by bipartisan act including Lying Joe Biden himself. The detention centers saw degradation and inhumane conditions reports during past Presidential terms, with the most serious human rights abuses occurring during Obama's presidency. The law is just, fair, and bipartisan. But does it work to deter illegal immigration? No. Only a physical barrier can help that problem. Until a wall is built on the southern border people will continue to pour in and infiltrate our welfare system by the thousands.

A perfect post @redhotpogo . I am sick of all the BS!!! Why don't all these illegals join together and overthrow their stinking governments if life is so horrible. It angers me greatly that the illegals think they can just show up and be taken care of. It is also a slap in the face to all the Europeans that landed on Staten Island and worked their butts off, learned ENGLISH and became a citizen in the right way.

The thing that makes it even worse is that there are tons of resources to make illegals legal. But they stay here for years and never take one step to become legal. And you have to ask yourself why. What kind of person would not want to be a citizen where they lived and worked? They give real immigrants a bad name.

@nanette64 Exactly, and liberals don't seem to think that's a problem. Apparently there is a money tree somewhere.

@redhotpogo And what I don't understand is that even though they are 'illegal', they get every benefit known to man. Food Stamps, free housing, free utilities, free medical and yet they're driving around in a 2018 SUV. I on the other hand get $15 a month in food stamps and I drive a 2000 Saturn.

I'm glad someone else is also not blaming Trump for things that have been a real problem since Bush took office, of course there are many more problems that I have no clue about but living so close to Juarez I have heard a lot of the horror stories about it from people who have had to deal with trying to get family out of their prisons. You see, in Juarez they don't need a legal reason to detain and arrest an American, well at least not in the past.
No, the Trump administration did not “lose” 1,500 immigrant kids. They aren’t ripping children away from their mothers or keeping children in dog kennels. An...
