Good morning on a gloomy Monday, how is everyone? I checked on the recent discussions and I found one that particularly caught my eye. But that is not my main discussion this time.
I like to watch TV while mylotting. MasterChef's episode is at a standstill; apparently there is "no signal ", so I checked on the community channel.
I like period movies. As long as I understand the script if it is subtitled. The image I posted here however is not properly subtitled. There is an English dialogue but what comes out of the lip - synching is Indian conversation.
Oh, for me, it is so silly to watch a Chinese period movie subtitled in English but lip-synched in Indian language.
Have you watched subtitled movie with different verbal language -synchronisation?

I am... a little confused. 
Are the subtitles provided by the... TV? But the dubbing is Indian so you expected Indian subtitles, too? Is that it?
Because I was just thinking that maybe whoever did the dubbing and added the subtitles to the video were trying to hit two target audiences, Indians who will listen, and those who understand English who will read.

@ridingbet Ah, I see. But maybe that can't be helped much. The original Chinese must be very different from the Indian. And maybe they don't give as much importance to trying to keep the dub close to the lip movements, and give more importance to translation.

@moirai i think the Indian channel did the dubbing because the movie might have had a great impact on them. i just changed the channel when i was amused also with the voices of the dubbers against what should be the voices of the Chinese. that beautiful lady in the image had the voice of the female version of Simba of The Lion King.
who wouldn't be amused with that?

I think the Indians dubbed the movie that is already subtitled in English. There is no lip - synchronised dialogue at all. When the actress utters an "A", the supposed line spoken is like a "U" with pursed lips.

I like to watch foreign movies. I haven't watched nay in a very long time though, and certainly none with a different subtitle than the lip sync!
I like to read and mylot but I also watch t.v. and mylot sometimes. Right now I wanted some background noise and so chose to play the Clue movie. The one with Tim Curry in it. It was one of my favorite movies as a child.

It is always the case for foreign movies. Should I watch an English movies with Italian subtitles the lip-syncing in is English. How can they make people who do not know a language move the lips to be synchronized with the subtitles? Even when you have a movie "translated", if you look at the lips, they talk their original language.

@ridingbet Sometimes I listen to the original English version and I put the Italian subtitles. The translations are many times wrong.

@LadyDuck i really find it a laughing stock when i read the crooked grammar of the subtitled movies. i don't speak fluently since i am not a native English speaker, but i think the subtitles are even more erroneous than what i say and write.

that is so right. especially if the subtitles has so many errors in grammar and spelling. i recall one Chinese film i watched that is subtitled in English. the dialogue was "You comes over there". clearly, there goes the subject-verb agreement, and for how can you come there? shouldn't it be 'go there', or 'come here'?

oh yes. a local network here do make dubbing so real that even the TH seems like spoken by the actor.

You know I spent three sleep late nights watching the entire series of Ja myun go korean novela, they were all 39 episodes and 1 hr per episode. I mean talk about addiction lol

so you prefer the subtitled films? when subtitled, the tendency is i look at the bottom of the TV screen to read the dialogue unlike in dubbed where you can watch the film and at the same time understand it; unless of course if the voices are not in congruent with the characters.
