A nice blessing today...

Well... I had a surprise that I did not expect today. Mission House found vouchers for Hope's Closet that they did not realize they had, and sent me one. Because they knew i was still in need of some stuff. It was only for $20. But at a thrift store, if you shop well...you can pick up a few nice things. It was good for today, so I went by to see if I could find some things, and there was nothing that I felt that I was really looking for. Plus... To be honest... I wasn't thinking of some things that I have needed for a long time. I just got used to having what I had...so it never crossed my mind to look for them. All in all... I ended up deciding to get some more clothes. I can't seem to find pants at thrift stores that I like to wear, and fit me right. So I end up going with shirts. And wearing the same old pants, even when they have holes in them. Now... I have a nice selection of winter shirts, but my summer ones are limited. Someone did recently allow me to pick a couple out that were okay at a small thrift store that they had, a few weeks ago. And was really grateful to get them. But thought... Since I had the voucher, I would see if I could find some cute summer shirts, since most of mine are like T-shirts. This store has different color tags that represent different types of sales. Today's was white at 90% off, green at 75% off, and red at 50% off. Pretty good sales. However... All the 90% stuff that I liked did not fit me right, but I did find a few green and red tags...and a couple at full price. One for $4, and one for $6. This was half the budget. But with the others having so much off...I found 5 more that went slightly over budget of less that $2. When I was done...they got me a manager, because managers have to do the vouchers. I had never met this one. They have so many new people there now...I hardly recognize anyone. I told the manager that I had gotten 7 shirts, and would pay the extra couple of dollars that ran over the voucher limit. She told me that it was not happening. I was not going to pay for anything today. I handed her the voucher. She read it and asked if I needed anything else? I told her that I never thought about it. She said the Lord told her that I needed some extra stuff that I really did not have the money to get. She then asked if I needed bed sheets. i told her yes. I had been using the same solid gray set for the past 9 months. I wash them, but then turn around and put them back on the bed, when they were clean. Those were the only ones I had to use. Can you imagine...a female using the same gray sheets for 9 straight months??? It was depressing. However... I got used to using what was given to me, and never thought about asking God for another set. The only thing they had was a flannel set. But it had a white background, with colorful polka-dots on them. They were selling them for $12, but she told me they were mine. I had looked at them earlier, thinking how nice it would be to have a bright color on my bed, instead of the same dull gray I have gotten used to for 9 months. Flannel or not...they were a different color. So for God to end up giving them to me, was amazing. They had only one mattress cover, and it happened to be for a queen. It was a better quality one that came from JC Penney. She told me it was mine too. Once I put it on my bed, even thought it was not memory foam...because it was better quality...it did make the bed a tad bit more comfortable. She gave me a memory foam bath mat, that was pretty much new. Plus... I got a small rug for the side of my bed. She went to the back and even though they were not sets, she got me 3 bath towels (one had a scripture on it), two hand towels, and two wash cloths. I keep telling myself, that one day I am going to have a matching set of towels, and wash cloths. I have not had a matching set of anything...since I lost all my possessions. Every girl needs at least one matching bath towel set. A few would be nice, but I would be happy with one. There weren't any pillow shams, so I could make my bed pretty. But maybe one day. I remember having these beautiful duvet covers, that I would use at different seasons throughout the year, to make my bed pretty. I had one comforter, but several duvet covers. It was easier to store that way, then having a bunch of comforters. Then I had a boat load of pretty decorative pillows. My bed used to look so nice at one time. I've got to stop talking about this... I am going to start crying. LOL But nevertheless... After she rung me up. I thanked her, and told her that I was totally floored at her kindness, and never expected it. She told me this was what their ministry was all about. Earlier... I had went to the dollar store to pick up some candles for my bathroom. They really did not have a lot of pretty ones. I used to have several, that folks gave me as gifts. Candles gives a bathroom such a beautiful look. However...I did find one pretty class jar, I put a plain candle in. Now my bathroom is a little nicer than it once was. So today... My bed and bath got just a little closer to feeling like home for me. Thanks to that surprise blessing I never saw coming.

Things will continue to come back to you and you will appreciate each part of the process. I am glad this charity is fulfilling its mission of caring for people in need. It is both the spirit and the letter of what giving is about. Caring for widows and orphans.

That is the way it should be, but sadly so many churches and organizations stopped doing this...

I would have never been able to get that much, except from her kindness.

It's too bad you don't live closer to me. I have so much I need to give away that I keep hauling to thrift stores. Your post reminds me of that verse that says God will answer even before you ask. Sounds like that's what happened with you. I'm happy for you.

What a blessing, indeed! Plus, it's nice to hear that ministries remember their calling instead of looking for a buck or two.

this was your day for sure, you have been blessed, when something happens to me that I didn't expect, I pay it forward to someone else when the time is right. And hopefully they do the same, just one act of kindness can go a long way.

Shopping at a thrift store is needful but also fun. I love a bargain! I'll never forgot the time I walked into a Goodwill store and they were already a sale but then they put everything at half-price. I paid 50 cents for a red vest! A nicely tailored red vest. My mother was a dressmaker and my father was a tailor. I have great appreciation for a quality garment. I'm blessed by so many people similar to what happened to you. I often receive gift cards and sometimes cash. I don't ask. It's like blessings that fall down from heaven on top of you. It's an indescribable feeling, isn't it? “Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” Matt 6: 26

They truly are... Except when promises are made, then get broken. Whether intentional or not. It really dashes one's hopes. However... I have noticed that when that happens. God many times makes it up to me in other ways.

Looks like you were fortunate and blessed by it. I believe that there are people who have the connection with the spirit of Jesus and they are guided by Him to help certain people in the world, people who are also closely connected to the Holy Spirit. It happens and when it does it can be a powerfully positive force that you never will forget.

@ramapo17 , Well the reason I say this is because of my having had first hand experience with the power of Jesus in others witnessing to people I know and love and even a few times to myself from people who have been touched by the Holy Spirit. But I do know that there are those who have their own foregone conclusions, the doubting Thomases of the world.
