I have been meaning to read this book since it came out, but just never got around to it. I have heard a lot of mixed reviews on this second novel by Harper Lee. A lot of people didn't think it was very good. I am only on chapter five right now, and it isn't horrible. I was surprised that one of the main characters from the first one is dead in this book. But you know, life (or death in this case) happens. This book takes place twenty years after To Kill A Mockingbird, and follows Scout as she returns home to visit with her father, suitor and the rest of the town that she grew up with and in. Atticus is in his early seventies in this book, and of course that is weird for me to picture being as I have seen the movie starring Gregory Peck dozens of times. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet, and I will post a recap and review when I am done with it. I will admit that I will be plenty dissapointed if it is a let down. To Kill a Mockingbird was my favoirite book for a long time, and is in the top three if not still my favortie. It would for sure be a blow if this didn't live up to it's predecesor. What are you reading currently? Anything good? Anything bad?

I've heard that she may have been coerced into publishing the book. I don't know.

I have forty pages left now and its not getting any better. The whole book reads like political propaganda.

@thislittlepennyearns I realize it was supposedly her first effort that sat in at trunk forever but there have been suspicions the book is a scam, a recently written politically correct book making a fortune thanks to using Lee's name thus saving a financially shaky publishing company.

@JohnRoberts it is still enough her style for me to believe that she wrote it. It just seems rushed. And since the only thing she has written besides this is TKAM, its hard to compare. I have to take breams frequently when reading it. Because of how its jumbled and cobbled together

I've had this book on my "to read" list for ages but never got around to getting it. Currently I'm reading The Rooster Bar by John Grisham and it's pretty good
