Do smart phone games deplete your phone's battery or make the phone hot?

I really love playing Yahtzee. I used to play a Yahtzee game called "Dice Me" on my iPhone. I really loved that game but at one point it disappeared on my phone.
I had no idea why it had vanished. Thought maybe the iOS update had removed it or that maybe I accidentally deleted it from my phone.
I tried to find it in the app store but it was not available. I ended up finding a page for this game on FB and I messaged it and was told that this game is no longer available on Apple devices.
I was bummed about it and tried to find a different Yatzee game to play. I finally found one called New YAHTZEE.
It's a really cool game and much more interesting than "Dice Me" was. I enjoy playing it. However, when I play this game the battery goes fast.
Right now when I look at my battery usage for the game for the last 24 hours, it shows 51 minutes on screen - 45% battery usage. I am not sure what that means but I am assuming playing the game for 51 minutes straight reduced my battery by 45%. That's not a good thing. Hope it won't ruin my battery's life.
Also, I noticed that playing this game makes my phone hot. It doesn't happen every single time but often enough. I wonder why that is happening. It can't be good for the phone. I don't want to stop playing this game because I love it, but I don't want to do it if it will screw up my phone.
Does playing certain games on your smart phone make it hot or make your battery decrease by a lot in a short amount of time?

I get that now but why do they do that? I can be on FB for a while on my phone and it won't drain the battery as fast as that Yahtzee game I play does.

@banksim That makes a lot of sense. Not a fan of it. I don't want my battery to get ruined because of this game.

@lovebuglena because the graphics used in games need more power to display in HD screen

It might end up ruining the battery life of your phone because you have to charge it more

I don't want that to happen. Maybe I have to give up that Yahtzee game. There is a trivia game that I play on my phone sometimes, though haven't in a while, and it doesn't drain my battery fast. Wonder what the difference is that one game does and the other doesn't. Sometimes I play Yahtzee when I plugged into the wall but I am thinking that is not good to do. It's probably best to not use my phone for anything when it's charging.

@lovebuglena I also use the phone while it's charging. I hope I will not ruin the battery.

phones aren't meant to be constantly used, which ive been told is why they get hot playing games or even being on social media for more than 10-15 minutes at a time. however, there are people who use their phones to watch videos, and the batteries obviously drain, as phone is being used, but their phones don't get hot. so really don't think anyone knows exactly. lol

If these smart phones aren't meant to be constantly use why do they make them smart and offer all these apps and features and make us pay big bucks for them?

Thing is that certain games are only available on phones... And if I love them I can't not play them. But my mobile games are limited. I only have 3 or 4. But the Yahtzee game is the one I play the most these days. Other games I play rarely.

@lovebuglena There is an app that lets you play mobile games on laptop or desktop.
