Presenteeism? I am guilty

Presenteeism, in the workforce, involves going in to work, even if you are ill and/or not productive. It is said to cost business in the US quite a bit of money.
Why would you go to work, if you are ill?
For me it was always guilt. I knew people were counting on me. I did not want to let them down. Also, sometimes I was not sure I was sick, just thought I was tired.
Others go to work sick so that they do not spend their days off. This will happen when they are planning a big trip or if their company will buy back leave days. Some businesses do not have any form of paid days off and that means desperate people show up to work, even when desperately ill.
The article I read from Bloomberg that was posted on Facebook, even counts going to work with depression as Presenteeism and being non productive.
Sometimes working while ill causes others to get sick. Not working when injured or working when depressed, but working when you have a virus, a stomach bug, or something like that.
This is one reason I would rather work at home. I then am only responsible for my own well being, and cannot make others sick.
Another site mentions being a workaholic, working in excess, as being presenteeism. I have been guilty of that as well.
Have you ever been guilty of Presenteeism?

I have no scope for having that guilt as I have to attend my routine as missing a day would cause a big difference if not planned well before as I am into the Breeding of horses and treating them as a Vet on a farm. So I can't think of keep my self abstained from my routine even I am not feeling well. I just finish the main work and come back to my place have rest which s situated on the farm itself! Thanks!

I agree, this type of work is not the same as in an office or store or school. Living things, the animals, depend on you to be there.

We go to work whwn we are sick and then fo to the infirmary clinic to get medicines depending with the doxtor if they will advise us to go home or not. But mostly we cannot really be absent simcw the department I was working then is in charge of making the check for payments.

It is good you had an infirmary. Not every place of business does.

Yes, I used to have a part-time weekend job which I was dependent upon because my other work was freelance and seasonal. I hated it when colleagues turned up to work in close proximity to me with heavy colds (or worse) but I did the same. We were all trapped, with no sick pay and low wages where there was nothing left over to save for emergencies like having to take time off.

And on top of that the supervisor will pressure you to show up anyway and fire you if you do not.

Yes, it does and it does no good to show up if you cannot work.
