Thought I'd win big in a scratch off lotto ticket but won only $1

Yesterday, while waiting for my husband to pick me up from the mall I decided to buy some scratch off lottery tickets. One of the games that I was playing was called Loose Change. It costs only $1. The object of this scratch off game is to scratch off the coin amounts and if they add up to more than one dollar you win the price shown in the box. The winning amount is revealed when you scratch off this box. You can win up to $500.
When I added up all the coin amounts my total came out to be way more than a dollar. I was very excited that I had won and was eager to scratch off the box to see the amount I would be taking home. I didn't necessarily expect to win $500 but I thought I'd get a decent amount. Turned out I only won $1. I was disappointed but at least I got the money back I had spent on the ticket.
Do you play scratch off lottery games?

@Courtlynn I sometimes play the $3 ones. And on a rare occasion I might have bought one for $5. Your winnings may not be high but they are not that bad.

I love those where you have to do things not just scratch off numbers and match them or have your number higher than theirs to win. I love doing cashword or scrabble ones, bingo, etc.

I broke even on that one. But then I spend $9 on other games but only won $5. So, in this case I didn't break even.

I haven't played a scratch off ticket in quite awhile. Atleast you did get your $1.00 back.

I just realized that I called it wrong. It's a scratch off. Thanks. I bought a few others and won $5. But in the end I spent $10 on all games so in actuality I lost $4.

@lovebuglena It was only $4.00 atleast. It could have been much worse.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I spent only $10, so the most I'd have lost would've been ten bucks. That wouldn't be bad. However, I'd rather win.

Unless a person is addicted and keeps spending lots of money even though he never wins then I'd say yes. Otherwise I don't think it's giving away money. It's a chance to make some money.

My father is playing scratch off. I'm the one who is scratching off the card as he thought I might bring luck to him but unfortunately it was the opposite.

Tell him to do it himself next time. Maybe he will have better luck.

I've never bought a scratch card. I've had a few free ones over the years but all I have 'won' is a grey mess on the floor.

I've won in the past but never big amounts. But they are fun to do though.

I broken even on that one. And I spent $2 on another and won $5. But then also got a few more and lost on those. In the end I spent $10 in total but won $6 so lost only $4.
