Faster charging for iPad in southern Japan

I live in Tokyo, and it takes my iPad a while to charge up. Last month, I visited Kagoshima, which is in the south part of Japan. I plugged in my iPad (I used it for reading on the flight) and was surprised that it charged very quickly.
Then I remembered what I learned a long time ago. Southern Japan electricity is 60 Hz but northern is only 50 Hz! Everything is made to operate on either system, but things from America are based on 60 Hz (they still work on 50 Hz though.)
It never occurred to me that my iPad would charge faster in southern Japan, and it probably did in America too, only I didn't notice.
What is your electricity like? I know Europe has very high-powered electricity.

Thanks for clarifying that. That is one kind of science I never really studied, I just know Europe is different from the US and Japan.

@petatonicsca Spain changed only a few years ago to be like the other European countries. Here in Switzerland we have the appliances (dish washer, washing machine, dryer) on 380 V so they are faster. We need a special protection for those machines.
