Celebrating Therapy

Let's face it, physical therapy isn't fun. It isn't meant to be fun, either. It's trying to get the body to either be "normal" again, or create an acceptable "new normal." That's probably where "no pain, no gain" is the truth. Currently I'm in two, count 'em, two therapies: respiratory therapy for my breathing, and physical therapy for my back. Sometimes therapy is a case of torture, limp home, lick wounds, and don't move again until the next session. My first physical therapy session was like that. The past two, however, have been wonderful. Yes, it's work, but I'm seeing results. Tonight I passed the big test. One of my biggest problems has been a relatively simple chore: changing the sheets on my bed. It's left me winded and aching in the back. Tonight, employing the strategies I've learned (primarily in PT), I changed the sheets. No breathing treatment required. No Tylenol and lidocaine for back pain. Yes, it took awhile, but I have to keep reminding myself that I'm inching closer and closer to 60, so it should take time. So I can chalk these sessions up as a success and celebrate the victory!! Oh, did I say "sheets"? Here's my favorite sheets song:
