Where do your dogs and kitties go when there's company?

When I go to friends' houses to play music, I've noticed that the dogs and cats move around a bit, but that they tend to end up where the "energy" is. If one person is leading most of the songs, my friend's dog will wind up at his or her feet.
At my friend Howie's house in Paradise, I notice that when I played guitar in the yard, with nobody else around, one of the kitties would wind up at my feet. In this case, it was "orange kitty."
Have you noticed patterns in where the dogs and kitties go when people are present? Is it about being close to where the "energy" is? Is it about safety? Is it about power?

I don't have dogs or cats so I don't have any idea about this.. I love cats and dogs and I am planning to get a dog as pet.

That's interesting. I know one of my cats, Charlotte - used to love when I would play bass. I miss her. :-( I know that my parent's cat hates when I play bass, but she likes it when I put on classical music to listen to

I think its about the music. My cat ignores me for the most part, but when I play my keyboard she is right beside me. I watch her ears move as the music is playing. She loves it!

@TheHorse I do think it's the music but it could be both. One of the songs I play I also have by the original artist in my IPod playlist. When I turn on my IPod to listen to it (without the headphones) my kitty will come running out from wherever she is to listen to it as well. It's her favorite song!
