Niagara falls

Right after we we’re finished with our short trip to West Point. We prepared ourselves for the long trip to Niagara. We stayed overnight at my sister’s house and early next day we started to move northwards. It was still chilly day and an 8 hour long trip to it. We arrived there about late afternoon and saw the majestic falls across the river was canadian territory. I for one became speechless upon seeing that majestic falls. One letdown with this trip was the falls were half frozen still. Large chunks of ice forms on the down the falls. A part of the park where you can take a good shot was partly closed due to ice formation and was considered dangerous and slippery. We stayed there until evening since they said that the falls lit up at night when projector flashes light of different colors on the falls making it nice to look at. But of course because temperatures came going down further we decided to take cut short our sightseeing since the temperatures became unbearably cold and freezing. Went to the hotel to redt for the night. The next day we proceeded back home. Another 8 hour long trip back and I say that was a unique experience seeing that great fall. I won’t forget that great place!

I have been to both sides of the Falls US and Canada. I got to see Canadian Falls both during the day and night And yes when lit they look grand. There was no ice formation We also took the maid of the mist ride which took us close to the falls and we got showered We had to wear raincoats. Blue for the US ride and Yellow for the Canadian ride.

That’s a nice experience! They said that the canadian side has the best angle of the falls. Unfortunately lady of the mist was not operational at that time because of the freezing temperatures.

I went there a few years ago-just beautiful. We went in May. Perfect as the lilacs in the park and tulips where in bloom also. I also used to live in close to West Point and went many times to visit. Now in Florida, so it's quite a trip.

May is already warmer I guess that is why the plants are in full bloom already. I went there at the onset of spring so temperatures were really cold. Niagara was still semi frozen at the time of our visit. It was a first for us.

What a shame it got too cold to stay longer. We have done that too - decided it was too cold to stay any longer.

Yeah the time was not that good for an early spring trip. We even got snow back home still.

Thank you it’s really nice i got the chance to see the falls in real life. That has been my childhood dream to see it. It was realized decades after.

It is excellent to read about your trip to the Niagara Falls. Staying over at your sisters house was a great idea so you could make the journey a bit shorter. I understand why you become speechless when you saw the stunning looking waterfalls. I saw some waterfalls between Argentina and Chile and it took my breath away. The falls will look very special all lit up at night time. Since it is summer in the USA and Canada I wonder why it is so cold. Is this normal for that area? I went to Vancouver in June to early July 2010 and it was quite sunny.

The winter and early spring is not the best times to view the Falls unless you wish to capture its crystaline nature while frozen. "Stillwater".

Yes we we’re aware of that. But we we’re curious how it looked like during winter. My brother in law went there during summer and fall this was his first time to see it on ice
