Thank you to all my fellow myLotters who helped my my previous countdowns of albums that were very popular but I never owned, as well as very popular albums I did own, such a success. It’s time to continue that theme, but in another area: movies. This will be in three sections: popular movies I have seen and loved, popular movies I wish I hadn’t seen, and, starting now, popular movies that I haven’t ever seen. Here’s the first one. #10: 2001: A Space Odyssey And Hal 9000 says, “You’ve never seen me, Dave? You must suffer now.” This is the American Film Institute’s #1 sci-fi movie of all time. It’s also #15 on their “100 Years, 100 Movies” list. Never seen it, never wanted to. Yes, I know who Hal 9000 is (obviously, as that made it to popular culture), and the plot (astronauts on a mission to Jupiter are sabotaged by their computer), but it’s never appealed to me. I suppose that’s due to the time it was released (1968) and the era (the immediate aftermath of the Apollo 1 tragedy). So sue me. If you think this is bad, wait till I get to #1! 2001: A Space Odyssey Directed by Stanley Kubrick Released in 1968 The iconic them to 2001:

I saw this Kubrick movie when young and thought it the most boring movie ever. Kubrick at his most pretentious. Most of the folks who saw this were stoned. It was the first stoner movie. That long ridiculous intro with the apes.

That’s what I heard about this movie, especially at the time: it was like a Bob Dylan song, you had to be wasted to understand it. BTW, Mr. Kubrik will be on these lists again.....

@FourWalls I am guessing A Clockwork Orange but I shall wait and read. I bet you love Dr. Strangelove. The suspense!

@JohnRoberts — take two Linda Ronstadt albums out of petty cash for your correct guesses.

I've never seen this and never felt deprived because of not having seen it. But I did think I was possibly the only one who hadn't.

This is a movie that I have started to see a number of times and fell asleep before the ending. Yes, I found it so boring and I love science fiction.
