Sugar level check - flavoured yoghurt

Now this isn't going to be much of a surprise unlike the Kellogg's cereal which had more sugar than expected. The flavoured yoghurt I bought had 15 grams of sugar for every 100 grams. A typical serving is about 100 grams which will contain almost 4 teaspoons of sugar. Surprisingly this is less than the sugar in the cereal!!

That's why, we make yogurt at home to avoid the additional sugar in it.

For plain yoghurt, we either make it at home or buy if it doesn't set. Flavoured yoghurt is just an occasional splurge as a snack!!

@hereandthere I use a simple method. Put a spoon of curd in a cup of milk and leave it overnight. You get curd.

Good for you that you are conscious about your sugar intake. I am not that conscious that sometimes I feel I have taken enough sugar that might trigger my sugar to shoot up. But so far I am trying my best to avoid such so my sugar levels won't rise uncontrollably.

@pitstop I too love flavoured yoghurt as well. But lately I really liked the Greek flavor. It has some distinct flavor that I liked about it.

I can't find the low sugar ones in India. This yoghurt even tastes way too sweet, but I like it...

We are always checking sugar levels in foods. It's surprising sometimes how much sugar some foods contain.

@pitstop And if there isn't a lot of sugar, there will probably be a lot of fat. It seems they need one or the other to produce something tasty.

Glad to know that you are watching your sugar intake. As for me, I do now because I am diabetic. I have been an insulin dependent for a few years now. I got it from my dad's side of the family. I used to munch on chocolates, cakes, ice creams, candies, etc. But now, I watch what I eat.

Diabetes makes you change your lifestyle doesn't it. I'm looking at sugar content just out of curiosity.

I think it's always better to buy a natural yoghurt and fresh fruits, then mix them up if you like. Sugar + aromatics does not equal to a real fruit unfortunately

Have you checked the sugar content, especially if it's flavoured yoghurt? Plain yoghurt should not have sugar.
