Proud Mom Moment

My 22 year old daughter has been playing soccer since she was 8 years old. She started in indoor house league where she won a couple of championships. But that was kid stuff. She has grown as a player. She has had her struggles since the teams she has been on haven't been the greatest. The coach has stuck her on defense because that's where she was needed. This year she wanted to stay with the coach she has had for the last couple of years. The team is not the best as far as attendance. They couldn't get the ladies to show up. Why register and pay to play for a team and then not show up? I always told my girls from the time they were young - "You made a commitment you follow through with it." They played most games with no substitutions, some with not even a full field of players. But my daughter managed to average a hat trick a game. That's right - she scored 3 goals in almost every game. They creamed the competition all season thanks to my daughter. I'm not bragging. The team she is playing for is a town north of our town. There has been a major rivalry with the team representing the town we live in because they always wanted my daughter to play for them but she didn't like the coaches. Two players left that team to play for ours. They also were the team that won it all last season. But not this year. We have beaten them every game... including last's night's Cup game. We were down 2-0 at half. Our girls seemed a bit deflated but then my daughter headed that ball into the net and it was on. We tied the game and went into a penalty kicks shoot out. My daughter is mad at herself for missing her penalty kick, but two other players DID score and they won the game... and the cup. The other team is not too happy. And ugh, we play them again next weekend. We have one more game next Sunday and then we should take the season having won all games except one, which they tied. So a completely winning season. I couldn't be prouder of my girl. I always knew she was a star. I wanted her to play for her university but she wanted to focus on her studies. She has always been an athlete and excels at every sport she plays. All her coaches are somewhat stunned when they see she can do pretty much anything she sets her mind and heart to. She has won a lot of MVP's and even a bursary when she graduated high school. In university she has earned many grants for keeping her grades above 80% average. The day she graduates will see me blubbering like an idiot. It's times like these when I realize I must have done something right as a mom.

That's so exciting! She looks like you, doesn't she? I love that look on her face like, Yeah, I'm bad, and I know it! "

Yeah, I got some pictures of some of her friends holding the trophy and they all posed so nicely with big smiles on their faces. Not my girl. And yeah, she is all me.

She was the second kicker during the overtime shoot-out and she missed. She was so mad at herself that she found it hard to enjoy the win. Scoring all those goals all season, and even a header during this game, but missing a penalty kick boggles her mind.

@Hannihar She did score the first goal in the game that was the turning point for her team as they were down 2-0. And it was an amazing header ball. One doesn't get those very often.

@patgalca She still did good. I can understand how she would feel. I am sure she wanted to be the one to win it for them.
