Such a dramatic and interesting place that my daughter was very fortunate to visit for her honeymoon. Yesterday our postcard arrived, four months after she had posted it. Crazy postal service in my country has been on strike nearly every month, so the post gets piled up until they are functioning again. "Zanzibar is a Tanzanian archipelago off the coast of East Africa. On its main island, Unguja, familiarly called Zanzibar, is Stone Town, a historic trade center with Swahili and Islamic influences. Its winding lanes present minarets, carved doorways and 19th-century landmarks such as the House of Wonders, a former sultan’s palace. The northern villages Nungwi and Kendwa have wide beaches lined with hotels." The currency is Tanzanian shillings, but they take dollars rather than any other currency. Inge said that they exchanged their money three times before the locals were happy. My favourite singer Freddy Mercury was born on the island of Zanzibar and I was lucky enough to be given a fridge magnet from a miniature copy of his birth homes RED front door. In the 1990's South African were not allowed to visit Zanzibar after a SA couple were highjacked - pirated in the waters near Zanzibar. This deterred my hubby and I from taking a holiday to one of the places on my bucket list. So it was scratched off and another adventurous destination was added. My lovely daughter Inge and her husband had a marvellous ten days on the island and came back with fabulous memories . . . and for me, I got a wonderful postcard from a place I would have loved to visit. Good Morning to you all from a crispy late winters morning, its almost as if Spring is trying to spring from the earth. I hope you enjoy the little music clip I have added because every time I think of Zanzibar, long sandy beaches or Freddy, this tune worms its way into my head and lingers long.
Old South African song, sung by former Stoccatos singer.

Perhaps you'll still get there one day. I hope so. And four months is certainly a long time to wait.

Zanzibar must have been a lovely place for your daughter's honeymoon. Talk about delayed post regarding the postcard arriving. What an amazing place to be born hey for Freddy Mercury. The sea around that island has modern day pirates and it was awful the South African couple in the 1990s got hijacked in the water near Zanzibar.
