Diary Wednesday 22nd August 2018 After a routine day of job searching I went to put some rubbish in the wheelie bins only to find one of the bins was swarming in hundreds of maggots. It was quite a sickening sight. Undoubtedly some bags of leftover food had spilt open and flies had laid eggs. I looked online about the best ways to deal with such a crisis. On the online reccomendation I poured several full kettle volumes of boiling water into the infested bin and sprayed it with bleach. I checked the bin later and there appeared to be no survivors. I guess this makes me guilty of chemical warfare and genocide. Diary Thursday 23rd August 2018 Another day of fruitless job searching, and being given a free pork pie as the community centre cafe had more than it could sell. Fortunately a maggot free day. Bleach will kill just about anything. So will nail polish remover.

Bleach is not dangerous and I think you did the right move to get rid of those maggots.

@asfarasiknow mentioned it to a neighbour who told me he noticed the maggots three days before. As we all collectively use the same bins I am amazed he just left the situation alone and never warned everyone else. I took action right away.

I hate the sight of maggots. Would you believe there is a traditional Sardinian sheep milk cheese that contains live maggots?
