rapidRATE!

My heart is beating so fast. I had to slow down with my personal tasks because I was in the city this afternoon. I went to the city at 2PM so I was not able to watch the afternoon drama series on TV. Although I have to perform my activities, I had to always check my heart, if the rhythm is still good and th rate is within normal limits. If I feel like catching my breath, I stand and lean on a wall. The rhythm of my heart is very irregular. It goes like “lub dub dub lub lub lub dub lub”. The rate is also irregular; sometimes fast, sometimes slow, sometimes at longer intervals. It is nice though because there is no fluid accumulation in my ankles and feet. Our heart rate, blinking, and breathing, are some of the involuntary actions. Even when we touch something hot, it is involuntary reflex to instantly remove our hands off the hot surface. Although the beating of the heart is involuntary, I still have to always check its rate and rhythm.

Do you have any problem with your heart. Why not let the doctors check on it or if you have do you take any medicine to relieve that. I think when the heart is troubling you it is a good point to have it checked by heart specialist so they can put in preventive action on your condition.

we have not interacted well before, so i think you do not know that i have a heart ailment. i am always examined by my cardiologist that is why i am on maintenance medicine of Coumadin, Spironolactone, and carvedilol. i have this illness since 2010, but i can still do my vocation as a nurse-clinical instructor.

@ridingbet I see well you being a nurse can be a big help too since you are quite conscious with your health all the time.

I suffer of tachycardia. When I feel that it's going really too fast, I sit down and I rest.

@ridingbet No, it has nothing to do where I live, I was born with this heart defect. I had the problem even when we lived in the warm south of France. It is not all the time within the normal tracing, when it is over 120 beats, I know that I have to stop what I am doing, rest and perform the "Valsalva maneuver" to get back my normal breath and slow down the rhythm. I have the habit.

i think even if one has tachycardia, as long as the rhythm is within the normal tracing on ECG, it should be fine. maybe it also has something to do with where you live, like in cold countries or in mountainous regions where one has to exert efforts to do an activity.

@LadyDuck okey. it was good you knew since childhood you already have that heart defect. for me, i was diagnosed last 2010 only although i had arrhythmia since my childhood years.

yes, i have to control even my emotions of happiness, fright, sadness, and others as well because i have to keep my heart at its NRRR(normal rate, regular rhythm).

@ridingbet I hope it works well for you. I didn't know a heart could become bigger.

Yes it is good to check the heart at times. Sometimes when we are rushing, we can panic and the heart beats fast. Glad you do not have fluid build up.

that is one thing that i do not have now. i often drink cold water when i am exhausted, and it also controls my rapid heart rate.

I have the same problem. I experience palpitations every now and then especially when I am too nervous or excited or right after drinking a cup of coffee.

the anxiety, coffee, and nervousness precipitate to tachycardia. even extreme emotions can make your heart beat faster, isn't it?

i am always seen by my cardiologist after every 2 months.

It must be triggered with something. Why's that? I am hypertensive and I occasionally experience the same. I remembered one time that I stayed in ER a couple of hours because of my palpitation. My ECG reads normal and there's nothing to worry much about according to the doctor.

i have RHD. a normal heartbeat even though it is fast is termed tachycardia, a reduced heart rate is bradycardia. for me, it is irregular both in rate and rhythm.

@ridingbet How long you have that condition? I hope you're OK.

@ZedSmart i think since childhood because i was often brought to a doctor and he often said i have 'abnormal heartbeat'. the diagnosis of RHD was made last 2010 when i suddenly had a high blood pressure. i am taking coumadin since 2010.
