Greetings from my dinner table somewhere in the middle of nowhere! Actually, I’m in Tennessee, enjoying my trip. I’ll get into the details in future discussions, but for now it’s time for another one of those “great” movies that I saw and wish I hadn’t. Here’s today’s film.
#9: Mad Max
I was already tired of vigilante movies by the time this thing came along. That’s basically all we have here: Born Losers with Mel Gibson instead of Billy Jack.
Oh, I’m vicious, aren’t I? No more vicious than most of the characters in this movie, from the gang-raping motorcycle gang (who also think nothing of running over Max’s wife and baby) to Max taking almost sadistic pleasure in offing these clods. As I said, the “good guy” such as he is, wins and the bad guys “get what they deserve,” but by the end of the decade I was sick of people trying to give us Dirty Harry without Dirty Harry.
Maybe if Gibson had said, “Well, do you, punk?” I might have liked this movie.
Mad Max
Directed by George Miller
Released in 1979
Here’s the main theme, by NOT THE QUEEN GUY Brian May:

I never watched any subsequent MM movies. I did love the Tina Turner song (“We Don’t Need Another Hero”) from Beyond Thunderdome, though.

This is one of those movies where I liked the sequel better. This one was very boring in my opinion.

I never saw that one either. I guess Mel used some of that movie experience in making "Braveheart." Violence, loss of loved ones and revenge, a common theme involving flicks with Mel Gibson.
Anyway, had they named the movie "Hells Angels gone Wild" I might have given it a shot
