A pie with mold anyone?

I had a strong craving for pie the other day and went to my local Russian food store to see if they had any pies for sale. I got to the department where they have pre-packaged baked stuff and saw some pies there. I was already picturing myself biting into some delicious pie... I noticed the top pie on the shelf was either pumpkin or sweet potato. Don't remember which one it was. I did not want either of those flavors so looked through the pies underneath that one to see what else they had. They were all the same. The last one too, except it was covered with mold. And not just one little spot but most of the pie. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it had mold inside as well. But I did not want to find out. That is just disgusting. I quickly put it down and moved on. No pie for me. Mold is not my cup of tea. And the upsetting thing is that this is not the first time I discovered mold on one of the pies there. Unless it is the same pie that's been sitting there for a very long time. I wonder why no one bothers to check the shelves to make sure nothing is spoiled. That should be a must in any store! You can't sell stuff that is expired, spoiled, rotten, covered with mold, etc. For any price! Discounting bad or expired products should be a no-no but I've seen it done many a time and not just in this particular store but in others as well. I guess they think a lower price will entice people to buy the spoiled or expired things. I wonder if this pie will still be at the store when I go there next time. If it is, I should get the courage to go up to one of the employees and let them know about it. Maybe even bring the pie with me so they can see it for themselves right away.

What you describe is revolting in the extreme! At the very least, I would NOT shop there ever again. I would probably also report the shop to the local Trading Standards Authority, especially, if, as you say, this is not the only time you have found mouldy stuff there.

This is the only Russian food store near me that I can get to as I don't drive. If something is bad I do not get it of course. But not everything there is bad. Though I will say when I go there to buy meat I am not that confident in doing so. At times I don't buy what I came there to buy from the meat department. I either have a bad feeling or something doesn't seem fresh.

Molds multiply by producing spores that could transfer via air, if the pies are in the same shelf, they could all have some microscopic colonies growing in them already, I wont buy in that place not unless they disinfect the whole display, disgusting, good for them nobody reported to a sanitary inspector.

Are you saying if one pie has mold others can have it too but inside?

@lovebuglena if it's in the same shelf it's very possible cause spores could be blown, its microscopic.

I wonder how long it has been sitting there and why no one spotted it! Pretty disgusting!
