The Time of My Life

Can you believe it? August has gone and September is here. I remember way back when I was just a little girl the Labor Day Weekend was the saddest time for me. School was about to begin and the summer was over. My parents made sure my summers were spent in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. Sure it was hot anyway but as kids we had the shade of tall pine trees, woods to wander in, a sandbox to play in and a man-made lake to swim in. Our parents came up on the weekends and it was family time. The property was owned by a Latvian family and they also made sure that on weekends there was fun to be had with parties and such for both adults and kids. Every kid who had a summer birthday could throw a birthday party and everyone who was there for the summer had a wonderful time. Then came the end of August, Labor Day looming and it was back to the city, the apartment and school. As a teenager things were completely different. Sure it was not great to have to get back to school but you had your friends every day and you could chase after your boyfriends. What we missed about the summertime was frying ourselves at a New York beach of choice usually Coney Island, lying in the sun with a transistor radio blasting rock tunes in our ears. Then searching the beach for gorgeous guys and splashing in the waves. Summer came to an end but the fun continued in high school. During the last two years of university I had not time to consider summer ending and took no mind of Labor Day weekend because I wanted that diploma so bad I went all year long including two summer sessions. As an adult in my first job summer just became a hot time that you could enjoy only on the weekends and at vacation time. Still memories remain because when I lived in Latvia there was no Labor Day weekend and children started school on September 1. I sort of missed this time and now that I am back here I am faced with a Labor Day weekend and doing nothing special but I am reminded of the movie “Dirty Dancing”. Whenever I watch the movie my ears perk up at Labor Day weekend and I think to myself that if I was Baby and I had fallen in love with a guy like Johnny who just happened to look like Patrick Swayze and danced like him if I had to part from him I would be bawling my eyes out. At least he returned and they knew they had had the time of their lives. Do you have any past Labor Day memories? What are you doing this Labor Day?
This is the original version !! --LYRICS-- Boy: Now I've had the time of my life No I never felt like this before Yes I swear it's the truth and I owe it all...

What great memories you have. It sounds like your childhood was idyllic until you lost your father. Not saying it wasn't afterwards but I know you missed him a lot.
