How to Keep a Kid Busy

Once, my brothers and I must have been driving mom crazy by running in and out. She told us she had a secret about how to catch a bird. She said that if you sprinkled salt on a bird's tail, it would let you catch it and be your pet. We spent a couple of days sneaking up on birds with a salt shaker in hand. No bird ever let us shake salt on its tail. We gave up. What is the goofiest thing your parents ever did to keep you busy? Or that you told your kids to keep them busy?

We were outside kids anyways, a bike or a swing was enough for us, we either fell asleep in the swing hanging across it or took off on the bikes to places not allowed The kids I took care of never ran in and out, if they came in to much I would make them help me clean house.

That's funny. I guess they wanted to stay outside instead of cleaning. I rode a bike to tabu places too.

I don't recall what my mother told me - I was a quiet child anyway. When my son was little, his toys or cartoons kept him busy.

I am sure that he loved to watch the cartoons. My kids did. We did not have TV when we were kids.

@akalinus I know, it is much easier these days to keep kids occupied.

@Kandae11 Yes, but playing outside used to be the thing to do. I was a reader so I often escaped into books.

That is neat. I like that one. You have a dog, but no matter how coy you are will ever stay.

Things come back to you as you get older. I'm sure there is something, you just are not remembering right now.

That's hilarious. Your mom must have been a real funny person. Honestly, no idea. but then we were always busy playing, watching tv, or helping mom out.

Both of my parents had a sense of humor, about some things, anyway.

There is a rainbow shadow that will always lurk in the shadow. If you are able to catch it, you will be able to get any wish in your life. So it got us fixed that for a long time.

There is no way i could catch anything like that even if we stay still for a million years.

We were told this too but I don't think I ever tried to follow it through.

I did not know that it was a common thing. Maybe someone told her that when she was a little kid. Thanks for telling me that. It is interesting.

@akalinus And if Mum didn't want to tell us where Dad or someone had gone, she'd say 'He's gone to see a man about a dog'.

@akalinus I have no idea because my parents were not around much so they never tried to keep us busy. We had to be busy on our own. One time my brother and sister thought it was cute to play a trick on me so my brother poured ketchup on my sister and pretended it was blood. I ran out of the house screaming.

My kids did that to me, once. They poured ketchup on themselves and ran into the house screaming. I caught on when I wondered why they smelled like tomatoes. Did anyone care or try to help you?

My brothers and I were very busy kids. Most times our parents had to come looking for us.
