On day three we got up and drove through the Badlands National Park and seen the beautiful landscape and some more animals. We seen Bighorn Sheep, Prairie Dogs, and Bison. We spent about 3 hours there before heading another 100 miles west. We went to a place called Horse Thief Campground near Hill City, SD. The place was great, it's in the middle of four mountain peaks and the views there are great. We took the rest of the day to relax and set up camp. We planned to stay there for two nights. We found that we had no cell coverage there and although the place said they have "spotty wifi" we could not get on the wifi at all the entire time we were there. In the evening while cooking dinner we had nine deer come close to our camp site. They were just feeding in the field while we ate dinner. When I say close I mean they were within 20 yards of where we were sitting. Being from the city we don't get deer anywhere near us, so this was a nice treat. The only downside to the camping was at night the temperature dropped down to 44 F (6.6 C). It was pretty chilly sitting by the fire. By 10 pm we had enough and called it a night so we could get in the sleeping bags and get warm. Another great day on the road and time to relax and enjoy a conversation with my son.
