Hilarious Dangers of Voice Texting

I use Audible to listen to books when I am riding in my car, and my friend, Shirley, and I are currently listening to the novel "The President is Missing" during our drives back and forth to the beach. The other day, we were leaving the beach to meet a third friend, Lynn. The book was playing, and I suggested that Shirley send a text message to Lynn, letting her know we would meet her in a few minutes. I didn't realize that Shirley was going to send a voice text, or I would have turned off the book. Shirley picked up her phone and said, "Text Lynn." Just then, the main character in the book said, "Cut the crap." Shirley started yelling, "Don't send! Don't send!" I turned off the book and asked what happened. Shirley said, "Before I could say anything in the text, it had automatically written 'cut the crap' and that was the message which was about to be sent to Lynn!" We both started laughing so hard that we could hardly contain ourselves. Shirley prevented the message from going out just in time! If that message had gone to Lynn, she would have wondered why the heck we had sent her that message! Have you ever sent an embarrassing message to someone by accident?

That is hilarious!!!!!!! Last winter in Florida (where else?) we were out with friends and my husband took lots of photos with his smartphone of me after I had my martini. I texted all the photos to my phone, or so I thought. A few minutes later, our neighbor, Dr. Jay, texted that the photos were beautiful. He probably thought I sent him all those photos just for him. I have never been more embarrassed in my life!. Much apologizing ensued. All the photos were just awful, too.

@DianneN - Ha ha! That would have embarrassed me, too! I'm sure your neighbor was either surprised or pleased that you were texting pictures to him! LOL

I do not listen to audio books and I do not use voice texting. It never happened that I sent a message to someone by accident.

@DeborahDiane I tried and it's not something I like. I like to read at my peace, imagining the scene first and then the characters. Listening is not something I like, you can read many books and not even remember what you listened.

@LadyDuck - Ah! I understand. It is good that we have so many options, today, to read, listen, see movies, etc. We are very fortunate to live when we do.

@LadyDuck - I'm glad you have never sent out a message by mistake! I love listening to audio books. It allows me to read many more books than I would be able to, normally!

I am laughing over here. By the way, I want to read "The President is Missing." I haven't bought it yet though. The voice recognition software never understands me at first. It doesn't matter whether it's on my phone (android), on my firestick (Alexa? whatever her name is), they just don't understand me first go.

@ScribbledAdNauseum - So far, I have only read a little of the book, but I am really enjoying it. Fascinating story.

@DeborahDiane I am sure it is. There is another book that I want to get, written in the 60's I believe. I forget the title but I wrote a discussion about it. It's about a President whose mental state is brought into question by a high official on his team. The official tries to warn others, but with little success ( I believe). The book is out of print so it's hard to find.

@ScribbledAdNauseum - Too bad that book is out-of-print. It sounds like it would be interesting to read, especially considering the situation we have right now in our country.

@DeborahDiane I wonder what your friend would have thought if she got that message. That was something. I probably have sent weird messages out and could not stop them after pressed send.

hahaha that's hilarious! a friend once sent a voice-to-text message to me from her car. it started out friendly and then evolved into strange cursing, which I then realized was her talking about someone who cut her off while driving, and the message still sent. still makes me laugh to this day

I don’t use voice texting that is why I am sure I wouldn’t do that mistake. But that was funny that at times technology could create this funny events unexpectedly.

Wow, who would have thought sending messages can be so tricky. It is better to send text messages and voice messages in a quiet environment, so you can relax, think and send exactly what you want. The wonders of technology :-) Have a safe ride to your friend, even if you send voice messages, stay safe. That "cut the crap" accident could be a car accident.

@stringer321 - Yes, it is better to drive and not send voice messages at the same time. I would not want to be in a car accident.

I sent an angry grinding teeth emoji to a good friend by mistake when she reminded me of collecting her kid for her that day (she was very ill suddenly). She was so shocked until I apologised & told her the truth: I just rolled out of bed & still rubbing my eyes. The emoji should have been a thum up one.

That's so funny! One time when I used voice text, but didn't turn it off, the phone typed a very vulgar sentence to my boss. Thank goodness I didn't hit send! It was a perfectly complete sentence, but used words I have never used, ever! I would have been fired for sure. I thought my phone was demon possessed
