I received an email informing me that I won in an online lottery and I had to contact the link that the email referred to. I did and I was informed that I really did win. I was sent an attachment in which some information needed. There was also an attachment requiring me to file a tax for the winning money which cost $600. I was instructed to send it to the name given then they would process my money through Western Union. The MO Lottery is located in Missouri, US and I come from an Asian country. Though I remember that I was also trying lottery online, I could not believe that I won $2.3 million dollars! Yes, that is the winning money. I believe its a scam since they are already asking for money. I do not reply to emails anymore. Had you experienced something like this too?

I have even had family getting rich in Nigeria and dying without offspring. It has been a pity that I never had family in Nigeria, else I could have received millions. As it is, I did not dare send the money they asked for administrative purposes

Yes it's a scam, they get your money, you don't get anything. In fact I wouldn't even think that a winning lottery would be processed through Western Union to start with. You do have to be mighty careful, years ago after I got out of college I was putting in for jobs and seen one for a shipping and receiving job. The money sounded good and I even filled out an online application. All of a sudden boxes was arriving at my home, I was instructed to take out the invoice and repackage it and put the postage label on the box and then take it to the post office. At the end of the month I was told I would get paid. I really thought that it was a actual job. After around two weeks of doing this, in which the items they were send kept getting more expensive, I started looking at the invoices.and contacted some of the people. Come to find out the people that I suppose to be working for had been stealing credit cards and charging all the stuff, sending it to me and I was sending the packages overseas. I did go to the authorities about it, and filed a report on line, I sure didn't want to get into any trouble because of it. And low and behold guess where they was going to pay me through, that's right, Western Union! Come to find out I would have never received any money from them, that even the part about them paying me through Western Union was a lie!

@cherigucchi Oh yes, it opened my eyes, whats bad is, it makes you mistrust everything! As far as your situation goes, always keep this in mind, anything like that that they ask for money up front is a scam!

I also received a local one. The message says I have to talk to such lawyer. For sure, if I talk to that person he will tell me I needed to deposit a certain amount to start the process of getting the money. So, never mind.

Yes it's a scam. I've seen various ones from Nigeria and other people asking for money. Just ignore it and hit delete. Send it to your email server's spam filter.

Yes, that's spam. I don't reply to them. They go automatically to spam so I don't see them anymore.

They could have just deducted the tax from the gross winnings. They are just plain crooks I guess trying to lure unsuspecting people to be attracted by their bait and when they got your money they will just be gone without a trace. One thing for sure when you are to pay your taxes you are not supposed to send to a specific person but payable to the government. There are flaws in the scheme but I think many fall for it in the hopes of the winning money will be given to them.

I have been told of winning an iPhone etc but I ignore since I never did anything to qualify. I will tell when asking for money to process, just deduct the amount and send the balance - siva

It's a scam. The same thing happened to me, but it was a long time ago, so I do not even remember of the amount. I was supposed to pay some money as well. My answer was 'Ha ha ha'
