I Need to go Clean Now

It is fun to write here all day but I need to go clean now. I want to toss a lot of stuff, fill up another donation box and make a clean sweep through the place. Health and safety say it is a necessary evil. How do you clean? Do you weed out and toss as you go along or do you clean and then go through stuff that needs to go? How do you decide what to keep?

I just clean. I intend to have another good clean-out while Vince is away next month. It's mostly paperwork that seems to accumulate here.

I know the feeling. I toss and shred all the time and still drowning in paper.

I usually pick an area and go through all the stuff there, making a keep pile and a toss pile. I need to do that for my closet. I started to and then stopped because I didn't really know what to do with some of the stuff.

@akalinus I believe in cleaning and getting rid of things that no longer serve a purpose, but I also know how hard it can be to part with things. Especially if they hold a sentimental memory.

@ScribbledAdNauseum My son quit his job so I feel okay with giving his old uniforms to the thrift shop. But no decisions about the rest of the stuff yet.

I know the feeling. I am starting to realize that if something is not here, I don't have to clean it or put it anywhere. It is gone and I don't need to deal with it. Except for the memory of it, of course.

Part of the reason I don't like cleaning, is I don't like making decisions about "stuff" when I am forced to do so, I usually toss as I go along.

@akalinus not usually..once I have made the uncomfortable decision to purge whether it is to throw it out or take it to the thriftstore I follow through..I am bad when it comes to clothes and books. I save all these things that I will never wear or use again. Books though are friends..I don't like to get rid of them.

Do you ever reconsider and go take some stuff back? I have that problem with books but there is no more room on the shelves and piles.

@just4him That is a great thing to do. Some people just don't care if they take up double spaces.

I laughed about how you stated that. Yes, take it out by all means.

@akalinus I'll get it out this morning. By the time I got everything done here, it was dark. I don't go anywhere in the dark, except in the morning to the pool when I know traffic won't be bad. The dumpster isn't far, but with my cataracts, I want to make certain when I'm pulling back into the parking space, I'm parking straight and giving the people on either side of me enough room as well.

Luckily I have nothing to throw out truly. I only have a few items that I may sell before I move, if I move. Papers are usually something I can throw some out. I just do it as I go along Jo Ann. Have a good day now Jo Ann.

Thanks. Part of my problem is other people's stuff. I do toss and shred a lot of paper and file more but sometimes it overwhelms me.

If I have not used a stuff in last 2 years, it is wise to donate it. Also if I have outgrown something or do not need it anymore, it is given away. I am good with clearing clutter. Except for my books, I am fine giving away other things.

I understand about books. I have a ton of my son's clothes here. He finally told me to sort it out and only save the very best stuff. Thanks, son.

@akalinus I keep recycling cloths in house almost twice a year. They become clutter if not used anymore and occupy so much of space.

@arunima25 My son said I could donate all his old work uniforms. Yay, that gets rid of a lot of clutter.

@akalinus it's amazing how much stuff you collect in just a little while.

@popciclecold It is a little hard to believe. I keep taking stuff out of here, tossing or donating or giving away. It is endless, I can't imagine what it would be like if I just let it accumulate here. Yikes!

Sometimes I get into a "Do I really need this?" zone and throw out lots of papers. I may do that today. Then I vacuum! Old papers mean old dust.

Thanks, that is good for inspiration. I think I have dust from the last century.

It is never completely done. By the time you get to the end, it is time to start over.

@akalinus I agree with you completely, cleaning something or the other goes on and on in almost every home. It is really tiring on some days.

@vsai2008 It sure is never-ending. I wish they would invent a self-cleaning house.

It is a good thing they take your books. Some libraries are very particular about which books they accept.

@Shivram59 Friendship and things in common always helps. I have tried to donate to libraries and they only wanted new books.
