7 is not my lucky number this time. Just as the missus was going to start preparing dinner, our power finally failed. It had flickered many times before finally going out at 5:30pm. I reported the outage and then put my phone in power saver mode. Oddly enough, our internet connection is still live though the power is out. Not sure I fathom why, but I'll take it. It gives me a chance to give you this latest update. For the last 3 hours the rain and wind have been the worst we've seen yet. This probably contributed to our power going out. I have two recharge packs for the phone, so hope to keep it going until the power comes back on, but won't be using it for social media or web surfing. I am on my small laptop right now. If I use it conservatively, I should be able to check in every so often. I do have some pictures and video to share when things return to something akin to normal. Until then, stay safe.

I've been watching the news and thinking of you. You can also charge your phone in your car just in case. Be safe!!!!

Charging the phone in the car is on the list if it becomes necessary. I also have two small phone charging batteries. Fortunately, I didn't have to use them. My phones charge held out until power returned.

@DianneN My sister who lives closer to the coast just got her power back on today after 8 days without. There are some folks still waiting as flood waters are keeping crews from reaching them.

Our power came back on after 23 hours. My sister near New Bern and a friend in Wilmington have been without for over 48 hours already.

@DWDavis -- I saw that the TV station in New Bern had to evacuate early into the hurricane. They must have been pounded there.

@FourWalls This may have been the worst New Bern has endured in decades if not in its history. I've seen footage of boats in parking lots, between houses, and in the middle of parks. A good bit of the riverfront wound up under water. And now they have to brace for the flood waters from upstream to flow in over the next week.

Bummer..I am surprised it was on this long. That was my worst fear, that we would lose power here..but the storm is so minimal here we haven't even lost cable or internet.

We got lucky and our power was restored 1 hour short of a full day of being down. Glad you're area didn't lose theirs.

I'm grateful it did, and that it was restored in just under a day. The folks out there on the lines are heroes in my book.

@wolfgirl569 We dearly appreciate all the crews from out of state who come to our aid during these storms. I hope they know how much.

@DWDavis They are. We seldom lose power here, but our crews are good at trying to get it back on fast even while the storm is still blowing through. I think some of them headed your way to help.

The winds are still sustained in the teens, but that's a lot better than the 30s. Still raining. Thankfully, power is back on after going off at 5:30 yesterday evening. Kudos to the men and women out there working the lines.

We've been very fortunate here. Just a little inconvenienced. Others closer to the coast and rivers are the ones I'm praying for. There is talk of record flood levels for several of the rivers.

I have not invested in a generator as the need does not outweigh the cost in my estimation. I can deal with a day or two without electricity.
