7 is not my lucky number this time. Just as the missus was going to start preparing dinner, our power finally failed. It had flickered many times before finally going out at 5:30pm. I reported the outage and then put my phone in power saver mode.
Oddly enough, our internet connection is still live though the power is out. Not sure I fathom why, but I'll take it. It gives me a chance to give you this latest update.
For the last 3 hours the rain and wind have been the worst we've seen yet. This probably contributed to our power going out. I have two recharge packs for the phone, so hope to keep it going until the power comes back on, but won't be using it for social media or web surfing. I am on my small laptop right now. If I use it conservatively, I should be able to check in every so often.
I do have some pictures and video to share when things return to something akin to normal. Until then, stay safe.

@DWDavis -- I saw that the TV station in New Bern had to evacuate early into the hurricane. They must have been pounded there.

@FourWalls This may have been the worst New Bern has endured in decades if not in its history. I've seen footage of boats in parking lots, between houses, and in the middle of parks. A good bit of the riverfront wound up under water. And now they have to brace for the flood waters from upstream to flow in over the next week.

Bummer..I am surprised it was on this long. That was my worst fear, that we would lose power here..but the storm is so minimal here we haven't even lost cable or internet.

Just stay safe there. I am surprised your power stayed on as long as it did.

@wolfgirl569 We dearly appreciate all the crews from out of state who come to our aid during these storms. I hope they know how much.

@DWDavis They are. We seldom lose power here, but our crews are good at trying to get it back on fast even while the storm is still blowing through. I think some of them headed your way to help.
