France When I Was....

Seeing as I lived in the heart of the West Midlands it was an awfully long way to go to France. We went by Train and what I most loved that it was a Steam Train and we were mostly by the Coastline seeing the waves going over each other. I was quite unabashed even though I was wearing a school mac for that day things were like that just then. Anyway we got to this huge boat thing and it took us to Dieppe. Dieppe was a place I had never been before and like a little girl that I was I said that I had never got there before. Anyway I fell in love with the high sea walls of the Port and the lovely sea air. Loved the Boat as it was full of the smell of Gitannes I think you spell it like that and I did not mind that at all. I bought an ornament there that was in our house for yonks after that. All in all although it was a very long journey and we were only there for a few hours I loved my first time out of England and for me it was like going on a trip to the Moon something way out.

Trips like that when you are not very old can seem very exotic and exciting. I'm glad you have such great memories of it.

Oh yes it was a very long trip down there but I loved it all the way there and back. Seeing as I hardly ever went that far it was sort of exotic to me at that time.

@JudyEv It was a day to remember as I lost my Nan not long after that so it was well worthwhile.

That must have been an exciting time for you as a little girl. The first long trip I can remember was flying to New York to California all by myself to visit relatives. I was 12.

@DianneN But you had the courage to go though. I flew to Barcelona on my own for the first time and it was really great and best plane journey ever.

@lovinangelsinstead21 My father was able to put me on the plane then, and my relatives met me at the gate. I only traveled once again by myself, and that was to visit my boyfriend at the time. My father once again put me on the plane and my boyfriend met me at the gate.

France is one of the place I would love to visit epecially Paris and a city just above Paris where some of our ancestors came from to visit the royal castle where they came from when they escaped and came to America during the French Revolution to save their heads from being cut off.

So glad your Ancestors were able to escape that terrible plight. Paris is a wonderful place to be in even if its just going through it.
