Here in Daytona Beach, Florida, the summer lingers on and I am now longing for the colors of autumn. Last year I was still in Latvia at this time and it was a sad time for me making things brighter by seeing all the changes that autumn brought. Listening to music today I heard this sad but lovely song by Frank Sinatra “Summer Wind” it tells of a summer love that faded away. It also made me remember when I heard the words of how lonely it would be in the autumn and winter when there would be no one. It brought back the memories of how last year I dreaded the coming of winter and now all I can say is – Was it just last year? The time goes by so quickly and it seems like I am Alice who fell into the rabbit hole. It is interesting that this song was originally a song composed in the German language and known as “Der Sommerwind”. The title means the same as “Summer Wind” and was translated into English by Johnny Mercer. The wind that the song refers to is the sirocco wind that blows from North Africa into Southern Europe when summer comes to an end. It makes use of the metaphor for the changing of the seasons and for the passing of time. How many of you have heard this song by Sinatra? Is time flying by quickly for you too?
