Hi mylotters. Yesterday 2nd October was a national holiday in India. Gandhi Jayanti is a national festival celebrated in India to mark the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi who was born on 2nd October, 1869 at Porbandar district, Gujarat. The UN General Assembly announced on 15th June 2007 that it adopted a resolution which declared that 2nd October will be celebrated as the "International Day of Non-violence." Gandhiji was the father of our nation. He had protested against the British for several decades in order to get our country's independence by following the path of Non-violence. Till today Gandhiji's principles and values are followed by many people in India and we fondly remember him on this day i.e. 2nd October.

I watched the movie based on his life, and I found him a fascinating man, one who was willing to live -- and die -- for his principles.

I also admire what Gandhi achieved for India. I guess protesting by non-violent means is more protesting from the values of love, than those who protest in other ways. Mother Teresa once said... "I was once asked why I don't participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I'll be there." The closeness of love belies the approximation of it to yourself. This means that we should go where love is, not where it isn't. Protests are military-like protests of non-love, unless they remain peaceful and quietly conducive to protesting values, not protesting against non-values. This means that protesting values must uphold and protect the love in the value, rather than the nonlove in the nonvalue. We must keep our values, built upon love, so that our protesting values are the right kind, so that we are not protesting just against non-values, or against issues in a non-loving way.
