Sign says "dishwasher wanted" instead of "dish washer wanted"

I was in a shopping plaza yesterday and as I was passing a restaurant I saw a sign on their window that said "dishwasher wanted". I am assuming they meant dish washer and not a machine that washes dishes. Anyways, all of a sudden I started thinking to myself that maybe I should apply. I wash dishes every single day at home, so I have plenty of experience. I just don't get paid for doing it. So, would that still be considered professional experience? And would they hire me if I applied...? Not sure I'd want to wash dishes for a living though. Not unless I was desperate. Good thing I am not.

During my few years in the restaurant industry, I worked as a sort of roustabout of sorts, filling in wherever needed after my job of cleaning the restaurant before they opened for lunch was done. I often filled in for the dish washer and had to operate the dishwasher. Sometimes the dish washer would be sick and sometimes just up and quit without bothering to tell anyone. The best part of the job was getting to see all the waitstaff and bus staff during your shift. They relied on you to keep the clean tableware moving back out to the dining room so they could turn over more tables, so they were all nice to you.

@lovebuglena I would feel done in by the end of my shift, but the time went by quickly because I stayed so busy.

Yes, I'm sure they're looking for someone to wash dishes. Not too sure it's something that I want to do for a living.

@lovebuglena That is true. Every little does make a difference. Sometimes, you have to do what you have to do.

Same here. But at the end of the day a job means money. And earning a low salary is better than earning nothing at all. Every bit helps.

A lot of places still hire dish washers. A lot of people start there and work their way up the ladder.

I know. It's probably a lot faster than using an actual dishwasher because dishwashers can only fit so many plates, cups and utensils.

@lovebuglena it also depends on how the kitchen is set up
